Question about RCA D52W19 52" Rear Projection Television
Bought the RCA 52" did not buy extended warranty. Was very happy with pic quality etc..However right out of the box it had this high pitched ear piercing squeal for about 2 minutes when first turned on but then would stop.I feel I should have returned it then but this noise stopped and you know how it goes. The problem later was it did not want to come on for several tries but then would. This seemed to get worst and finaly would try three times and nothing before 1 minute wait to re-try again.I called RCA which was a waste of time and even visited the local RCA listed repair man in my town. You only get one chance to make a first impression and he came off to me as one lame duck who must have took a trip on acid or something and never came home. But then again he could be an electronics genues for all I know but I decided to punt. After walking through his maze of tv's in this old house he called a repair shop I decided to fix it myself.I am not a tech but electronics is a hobby of mine. This is what I did and now it works great.Hope this helps someone. Hope the techs don't hate me for giving this up.Unplug the TV of course and remove the back lower panel.Blow the dust off so you can see the components clearly.Have a bright light and look at capacitor CP158 16V 2200uF Green in color with gold (NEG)stripe which is located on rear board to your left. This baby was hard to see because it sets/hides behind the metal heat sink fence.Mine was bulged at the top and had brown ozz coming out at top.None of the rest looked this way.You have to unplug several ribbon cables and power wires to remove board so you can flip it over and un-solder it to put in a new one.The board just slides out easyly.(Important)note which side gold negative band is on Capacitor new one has to go in same way or it will pop. When I removed the Cap. and put analog meter on it it swung ok but ESR was off the scale at 6.5 to 7.0 It should be .05 this was my fix and it is like new again.I already had this Cap. but this is 92 cent part you can get at Radio Shack Jameco etc...Make notes of where wires unhooked from but they are pretty self explan.Take your time and double check your work.Hope this helps.I really missed this TV but now back in action. [email protected] PS don't touch the big twin big fat brown caps on right board these will bite at 250 Volts.Good Luck

Correction on Cap.location # is CP150 not CP158 Made by LELAN. I decided not to use an RCA replacment cap. since their originals seem to be defected.Rubicons caps and many others are good quality.
Green lignt flashes 3 times. Trans. or cap now screams for 3 secs off 2 secs.
my ty is not power
