Turn on the PC.

Supply the CD-ROM / DVD holding your preferred operating system - Windows, Linux, etc., into the CD / DVD tray and close the tray.

Wait up to 30 seconds for the CD / DVD drive to stop spinning

Turn the PC off.

Wait 15 seconds.

Turn the PC on.

Let the PC boot from the CD-ROM automatically / instruct the PC to boot from the disk in the CD / DVD drive.

Supply information as prompted.


If you do not have a CDROM/DVD, you will need to contact the PC manufacturer to obtain a start up disc & driver disk as needed. Explain to the support person that the old drive failed and a new one has been installed. No disk images were retrievable from the old hard drive. This should tell the person that you need everything to get this machine working as factory fresh once again.

You could purchase / download a different Operating System too - but this will likely cost much more than obtaining disks from the PC manufacturer.

1 first insert the windows cd in cd/dvd rom 2 chek in the bios if the first boot device is the cd/dvd rom 3 vhen it boots it will say press any key to boot from cd 4 after loading all the data you must format drive C 5 after formating it will restart instaling windows you must insert the windows cd key thats all

try other known good windows installer. if it boot, then the problem is in xp installer, if it not. try other external cd-rom drive. also be sure the disc rom drive are dvd rom drive because a cd rom drive cannot read dvd disc but a dvd rom drive can read cd rom disc installer

put your Win. 7 DVD in Rom Drive then restart your system -- when your screen shows the options to press F2 then press it then go to boot settings then put your rom drive to 1st boot device and hard drive as 2n boot device -- then press F10 and ENTER. then your system will restarted. then after few seconds your displays shows that "Press any key to boot from CD/DVD...." then press any key to go to setup then follow the steps and install Windows 7 and enjoy it.

Yes you can use a usb external cd/dvd-rom to any operating system as long as the bios allows you to, most bios's have the capability.

When the external usb drive has been connected power up the mechine, in post it should tell what to press to enter your boot menu without entering your bios and choose usb drive to boot.

you are saying two differnt things here.. CDROM and DVD if its a dvd in a CD ROM it will not boot a windows disk if somehow this is written to a DVD Is it original?
Secondly is the Cd ( or DVD drive) actaully working. Being listed in CMOS does not guarantee that.

I know you have listed the drive as DVD but do you have 1 or two drives installed and not have the disk in the recognised drive.; have to eliminatge all possibilities of werror in interpretation here.

So assuming everything appears as it should, then the medial in the drive has to be considered at fault .. dirty disk.. drive needs iris clean, not an original disk, damaged disk, not a boot disk.. just a windows cvopy.;

Is it recognises Hard disk or not?

i will try to solve u r problem

Just follow these simple steps:

1. Make sure you have all the discs included in your package.
2. After you power-up, strike del key to go to bios/system.
3. In boot selection, select DVD/CD ROM to boot first, HDD second and other if you wish..
4. Press ctrl+alt+delete to restart.
5. After pressing the tree (3), insert your CD/DVD installer to the drive..
6. Follow the instruction...

You need to boot with your windows vista cd and select repair install. This will reinstall the windows files, including the ntldr file, leaving your data intact. Make sure you only do the repair install, if you do the full install, it may wipe your data.
