My desktop monitor broke and i need to get to the files on my dell tower. How can I hook my desktop tower to my laptop to view these files
Not that easily, you would need to link the two together using either a bridged network cable or bridged usb cable, or by setting up a network using a router, but all of these require setting up on each computer, and seeing as you cannot see your desktop on your pc you can't do this.
I would suggest taking out the hard drive of your pc and purchasing a SATA/IDE to USB adapter set, this allows you to connect your pc's hard drive to your laptop via the USB port. You can then view all your files on the desktops hard drive as if its an internal hard drive on your laptop using windows explorer.
See here for an example of the adapter:-

Hope this helps.
U can get a usb adaptor for your hard drive.
Simplest answer is to borrow a monitor for long enough to copy your files off of the desktop.
You also might look for a used monitor if no-one will let you borrow one, Pawn Shops, GoodWill, Ebay are all good sources, old CRT monitors are plentiful and cheap
If for some reason, you can't to that, then you are pretty much limited to getting a USB HDD adapter and removing the HDD from your dell and using the adapter to connect the drive to your portable.
