I have used my install disks that came with the Compaq A3000 to install The software on Vista. The software installed without problem. However I am not able to open any program including Notepad to print to the printer. When printing I recieve a Message Box giving the option to "Show me the Message" that could not be displayed. I assume somehow this is a Vista Compatability issue. What do I need to change or set in order to be able to use this printer? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Microsoft Windows Vista and Compaq A3000
Onmly Compaq will have the approprive driver download.
You are correct to assume a Vista compatability issue- this is becoming more evirdent with many peripherals.
By the bye- the printer is of course a rebadged Lexmark or HP or Brother [ can be either] see if you can see which and check the appropriate web site.

if you have everything down load it from microsoft site onto a usb stick then burn it onto a disc
or contact microsoft and as for another disc giving all of the details so that they can check their records
It appears the hard disk has been wiped/formatted and does not have an operating system installed.
You need to get a Windows Vista installation CD and if the Windows label
on the bottom of the laptop is still attached then this label has the
product installation code.
Boot up with the Windows Vista installation CD to install the Vista
operating software then you need to install the Presario device drivers.
You can download the device drivers from the Compaq/HP WEB
support/download page. Make sure you select your model laptop and the Windows
drivers you require and install them. Click on this link to download the
drivers: - www.compaq.com/country/cpq_support.html
I hope the following information is helpful.
If you are trying to install the driver for the Broadcom ethernet NIC that was pre-installed (NOT an ethernet card that you purchased and installed yourself), there is a softpack (updated driver installation) download available from HP/Compaq. It will install the driver automatically for you, just download it from the link below and run the ".exe" file.

In that case it affects the file system of your hard drive that's why it fails the windows vista installation. In order to fix it you need to delete the partition of your hard drive and create a new one using a partition manager software. If you can connect your hard drive into another computer you can perform a disk partition using the Disk Management (In Windows XP: Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Storage > Disk Management)
To help you with the procedure on "How to use Disk Management."
Using Disk Management, after creating a partition in your drive, proceed to formatting.
You cannot install Windows XP over WIndows Vista. Microsoft has put a lock on the Vista software and will not allow you to downgrade to a lower software. The only way you can do it is to wipe your hard drive completely clean first with a disk deleting software or with the command "fdisk" at the DOS prompt. However, this is dangerous and I do not recommend it unless you have someone professionally trained to do it. It will wipe everything off of your disk and then you can load Windows XP.

HP does not currently have a driver release for the Compaq A3000 All-In-One that is compatible with the Windows Vista operating system. You can attempt to find an alternate driver that works but it may cause system instability, if it works at all. I recommend upgrading to a printer with a Vista-compatible driver available because it is the most stable solution.
Ths looks like a not properly removed software. What you can do is to remove the software manually by removing all the files and registry keys. But do this at your own risk. I suggest that you do a backup of your computer first
Compaq never made a driver for this model that was for Vista. You can try downloading the XP drivers from www.compaq.ca Sometimes these drivers will work with Vista, sometimes not. If not, Maybe compaq will put out a driver for Vista in the future.
