My ice and water dispenser are working fine but the area under the pull out tray(where you would put a glass to fill) is hot. We have just noticed it over the past week
Some companies have installed a small heater that keeps the water lines from freezing. If you notice there are a lot of problems with side-by-sides and not water to the dispenser. Companies try different ways to correct the problem. I know Whirlpool has installed a heater behind the ice maker drop that keeps ice from forming in the chute. This is more than likely what you are experiencing. Freezers also have a self-defrost that comes on every 8 to 12 hours that can cause a warm condition. If it is not causing a problem I wouldn't worry about it.
