Safe whenever I push a button on my dvd/vcr player the word "safe" is displayed and the only way I can get it to do anything is thru the remote control...is there something I can do to stop this and use the buttons on the player itself. Thanks!

There should be a button on your remote labeled "safe." Press that, and it will turn the safe mode off. It's on the second row from the bottom on my remote.

I think you should get a new one the buttons should work along with the remotes

The 79% who voted in favor of the comment about getting a new one so the buttons on the machine work along with the remote don't understand the "safe" option. What if you like violent or even porno movies and have a collection you don't want your kids to view when you're not home. You push the "safe" button on the remote and hide the remote. The kids try to use the player using its buttons and the player won't work. You want the buttons on the machine to work again? Just push "safe" on the remote again. I will admit that I was stymied when I accidently pushed "safe" and the machine buttons wouldn't work, until I got to this site and read the comment that was more illuminating than this one.

Panasonic DMR-ES45V - DVD recorder / VCR combo Remote not workin

My remote is not working. When I press a button, I get the following message on my unit: U12, U30, SET #, CHK REMOTE #, or RC #. What can I do to fix this? The message displayed means that the remote control and unit are not communicating and the remote needs to be programmed. To program the remote, press and hold the same number that is displaying on the unit and the [ENTER] or [OK] button for more than 2 seconds. For example, if the unit displays “SET 2”, press and hold [2] and [ENTER] or [OK] for more than 2 seconds.

I had the same problem. Turned out the Child Lock was on. Push the Child Lock button on the remote (it's below the 0 key) and that should fix the problem.
