I have a Kichenaid (Whirlpool) thermal-convection freestanding gas range model KGST307GBS0. The spark igniters on the surface burners just started sparking continuously, regardless of whether the burners are turned on or not. I can light none, one, all, or any combination of the burners but the igniters keep firing. I thought that perhaps something had gotten wet during cleaning and left all four burners on for about 10 minutes but to no avail; the igniters kept sparking. We also tried baking something for about 90 minutes or so but the igniters just continued to fire (fortunately, I was in another room or I think I might have gone bonkers). I turned of the circuit breaker for several hours to stop the incessant clicking but it just started up again once power was restored. I am assuming the igniter module (found in the parts list of the chasis diagram) is bad but hesitate to spend $100+ if there is another option. Any ides???
Had The same problem. I removed the top of the control panel to find out that one of the ignitor switches had turned when I replaced the four large plasic nuts on the control panel. Make sure the switches (block) are aligned, and kept aligned, when re-installing the top of the control panel. Startwreck.
Guy, I would suspect one of the valve switches is shorting. Probably got wet and is grounding. Before you go after the spark module check these first. Each control valve has a switch. I usually find these to be the culprit with constant spark. Catriver.
Right on Guy, they run in a series. Start with one and work your way back. Look for one that might be grounding to the manifold. Or one just might be shorted. When the sparking stops, you found your culprit. If not, we'll have to go from there. Usually when the module fails, it's a no spark deal. Catriver.
Guy, Im having a rough time coming up with a wiring diagram of this model. There should be 3 more letters and a number following the kgst307. You are sure that none of the wires going to the switch's or ignitors are grounding to the cabinet. This is direct spark ignition. On the spark module you should have 4 wires going to the top burners. Three others for ground, bake and broil. Try removing, one at a time the wires going to the top burners. It's possible it could be the module, but I rarely see it. Catriver.
Guy, according to what I see, the module is in the back, inside bottom, left hand side. Catriver.

Hi,
Here
is a tip that I wrote to give details about why your cooktop will not
spark to light the burners..

Hi,
Here is a tip that I wrote that will help figure out why the burner spark keeps on clicking...

Cat,
I was hoping you might respond since you helped me with this range before. Thanks for the suggestion. This solution occurred to me and I have already attepmted to check this possiblility. I removed the control panel cover and disconnected one wire to each of the valve switches but the igniters continued to fire. I suppose I could/should have disconnected each switch completely and will try that this evening, unless you have another method to suggest for checking the switches. Meanwhile, we're cooking outside!

Cat,
I disconnected both wires from all four switches and the sparking continued. Any other ides?

Still looking for a solution to the problem of the sparking burner ignitors. Any further ideas???
Cat,
Complete model number is KGST307GBS0.
I removed the front console cover and disconnected both wires from everyone (that is, all four) of the burner switches and the sparking continued. I was curious and put a meter on each set of two wires and it spiked every time the sparks would fire at the burners. I have not checked the wires from the switches to the ignitors at the burners but will do that (if I can figure out how to expose those wires). Is the spark module behind teh stove or underneath the oven above the drwaer area? It's not real clear from the PDF pictures I have from KitchenAid.
Thanks much for your help.

I have a 5 burner DSC range. Two of the burners (the ones I have used the most) continue to click after the burners have lit. I tried cleaning them as suggested and then replaced the 5 Point igniter unit. This didn't change anything so I think that I blew 100 bucks for a unit that I didn't need. Is there a way to determine whether the sensors that tell the igniter to stop firing are faulty? Is there any advice for cleaning them better? Finally, how does the sensor actually work? Thanks!!
