Question about Fantom Drives 300 GB Hard Drive
These drives are fragile! Idiotic design--perched upright instead of flat. Knock it over once, and it may be history. If you hear squeaking, back up all your unique data on the drive elsewhere, or you may be in for total loss.

The drive may be defective. You might see if the manufacturer has a utility to do diagnostics on it. At least some of these external drives are merely a desktop or laptop drive with appropriate electronics in an external case. You could possibly disassemble the case, remove the drive, set the master/slave jumpers properly and try installing it in a standard computer, & see what kind of results you get there. If the drive is defective, then data recovery would be difficult at best, perhaps only available via a business specializing in such.
