I have a 1999 RCA Television Model F36645 ( F36645YX2 to be precise ) that just recently started going a little nuts. It starts scrolling through all of the programmed channels in the TV. While this is happening, I cannot stop it from doing so or even using the remove or power button (manual) to shut it down. I just have to unplug it. I have a friend who has suggested that this might be caused by the Gemstar 3 circuit board. Does this sound plausible. I am tried to do a little research on this, but hate plunking money down for something that's not going to solve the problem. At first the problem was intermittant, but not persistant. Thanks for any help/expertise anyone can provide.
It is almost certinly the front witcheds that are causing this. They become leaky and can cause intermittent channel scan, intermittent volume level changes among other problsm. I always change all of the switches because they are realtively inexensive and the ones that are not bad at the moment are likely to cause problems later.
I’m happy to help further over the phone at https://www.6ya.com/expert/dewayne_4a10eab6caecdb92

No I doubt very much if the gem star board is bad. It could be but I would check all of the front buttons on the cabinet as well as the remote control receiver sensor first. Good Luck

If you have a soldering iron you can try to desolder the program+ and program- tac switches switch on the tv again and see if it still scrolls if it doesnt scroll through the channels it means that one of the switches is faulty your remote should work once you desoldered the tac switches replace the tac switch
