RCA 36" TV Model F36645YX2 - Scrolls Through All Channels
I have a 1999 RCA Television Model F36645 ( F36645YX2 to be precise ) that just recently started going a little nuts.
It starts scrolling through all of the programmed channels in the TV. While this is happening, I cannot stop it from doing so or even using the remove or power button (manual) to shut it down. I just have to unplug it.
I have a friend who has suggested that this might be caused by the Gemstar 3 circuit board. Does this sound plausible. I am tried to do a little research on this, but hate plunking money down for something that's not going to solve the problem.
At first the problem was intermittant, but not persistant.
Thanks for any help/expertise anyone can provide.

It is almost certinly the front witcheds that are causing this. They become leaky and can cause intermittent channel scan, intermittent volume level changes among other problsm. I always change all of the switches because they are realtively inexensive and the ones that are not bad at the moment are likely to cause problems later.

No I doubt very much if the gem star board is bad. It could be but I would check all of the front buttons on the cabinet as well as the remote control receiver sensor first. Good Luck
If you have a soldering iron you can try to desolder the program+ and program- tac switches switch on the tv again and see if it still scrolls if it doesnt scroll through the channels it means that one of the switches is faulty your remote should work once you desoldered the tac switches replace the tac switch

Indoor antennas are not very good if you live far away from the TV transmitter. Antenna aim has to be more precise than before with analog TV's. If you can put up an outside antenna you'll probably get them all.
Most of the time it is the front contact switches Dirty clean them with contact cleaner or replace contact buttons on front panel board 29 cents each Call Mats 1-800-628-1118
its an rca this is a known problem. recently on ghost story cuz owners thought house was haunted. no the tvs ir is so sensitive it will power on and change channels on its own if someone enters the room. friend probably new this was happening. there is a fix but must be authorized repair center.
For F32718YX01...bad.257805 transformer or use ASTI 2078 generic..........................T.
For guest....237470 Transistor shorted AND transformer bad..
replace both.......................What is service #.......?
IF NOT F32718YX01, let me know......................T.
It's probably transistors on the crt board or caps in that control circuit. Not an expensive repair and worth doing... That particular model can still be fully rebuilt...
Not a difficult chassis to pull and you could send it in to Tri-State Module for a complete rebuild... Or just find a reputable repair center locally and take them the TV for repair..
