Protection code 11

Hi my receiver has a protection code 11 fault so I pulled out all the speaker wires then tried to turn the receiver back on but the same fault came up again and the receiver keeps turning off after the code flashes.

The very FIRST thing to check is to make certain ALL of your speakers have an IMPEDENCE of 8 OHMS. Virtually all speakers of even modest quality will include this specification on a label on the back of the speaker. You CANNOT run more than (2) TWO speakers with 4 OHMs impedence on ANY amplifier (technical discussion too long!) [NOTE: Some Sony equipment have internal overload protection systems to prevent permanent damage. However, you cannot re-set these systems yourself. Your dealer or authorized HK service center must do this.] But, before you take the unit in for service, there is one more "test": check for shorted and/or mis-connected/disconnected speaker cables/wires. Visually inspect connections at the receiver and speakers first. You might find something obvious! If everything looks okay, then disconnect ALL of the speakers; and reconnect and test them one at a time (at relatively low volume.) For example, reconnect the left front speaker, test the system; THEN add the right front, test the system, and so on, ADDING one more speaker each time - FIRST MAKING SURE EACH OF THEM HAS AN IMPEDENCE OF AT LEAST 8 OHMS! IF there is a short (or bad speaker) this will help isolate it. Hopefully one of these "fixes" will work for you. GOOD LUCK!

Got in car this morning and radio was blinking protect

Hi.

Protect mode is a special condition that kicks in when an internal fault has been detected. In protect mode all the unit function are disabled to prevent the stereo getting more damage in consequence of the fault. The state is a forced standby condition that starts when a wrong voltage or a short is detected.

Try disconnecting the battery terminal, pulling the radio out of the dash and checking the wiring at the back of the stereo. Most of the time protect mode is triggered by a wiring contact. If possible check also speaker wiring. A contact in wiring to speakers will trigger protect.

Regards.

Protection code 11

Here is the link to the user manual if you need it; http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-documents.pl?mdl=STRDA2000ES®ion_id=1 Check page 54 for details of the error message - it should disappear if the speakers are connected properly and the unit is switched off and on. Check page 17 for speaker connection details, and ensure they are all correct. Check page 19 for details of the factory reset/memory clearing. Hopefully this will clear the error code and let you set the unit up. Hope this helps, please ask again if no luck :)

Turns on then says protector than turns of

Hi,

Your receiver is in protection mode that's why.

The receiver will go into protection mode when there is a short in the speaker wires or the amplifier was overloaded. verify that none of the speaker wire connections are loose at the back of the receiver or at each speaker. And verify that none of the wires are making contact with each other.

if it is, then remove the speaker wires and connect them again properly. After disconnection g the speaker wires, unplug the receiver for 10 to 15 minutes. This will make the overload protection back to normal

Try this and let me know. I hope this would solve the issue

Comes up when switched on protection

Protect occurs when 1 or more of your speaker wires is touching somewhere. Power off the receiver, connect speaker wires to receiver and speakers again, power back on, should fix the issue.

Protet mode is a special diagnostic mode that starts when a fault is detected.

When in protection mode the unit is prevented from starting by protection circuit, so to prevent further damage.

Check the speakers and speakers wiring, a contact in speaker wires, or faulty speakers can send the unit in protection.

Try unplugging power cable for one hour or so. then connect cable back and see if you get rid of protect state. Sometimes accumulation of electrostatic charges inside circuit capacitors can kick in protect mode. In that case unplugging the unit from main for some times can get rid of electrostatic charges, and reset circuits by draining power completely.
If that was the problem, you will not get Protect when plugging back power cable.

If you do all the above and still get Protect, then there is a real fault.

In that case the unit may be disassembled and tested to find the fault.

If that is the case I suggest contacting the manufacturer at the number listed on the owners manual, or asking a quote on repair to a local technician.

Circuit fault protection goes in every minute

The most common problem found on FixYa for Audio Video2_bing.gif Receiver's is:

My receiver say's "Protect" or turns on then off. What's wrong? Seven times out of ten it is a shorted speaker or speaker wire. To determine your exact problem, the first step is to disconnect all speaker wires "at your receiver" Next: Turn the receiver back on. If your receiver still says "protect" or turns off, it needs to be serviced. If your receiver stays on; reconnect your speakers one at a time and power back up after each speaker. You may find that after reconnecting all speaker wires it works! Most commonly the small braids of wire from the + to the - have touched and have caused the problem. In some instances, you noticed the problem only when turning the volume up. either way, make sure the exposed wires to your receiver are no longer than 1/2" long and are completely under the screw down terminal or slide in. When you've found the wire or speaker with the problem, your receiver will go back into "protect" At this point, disconnect the wire from the speaker at the speaker that may be causing the problem then test again.* Note* Make sure speaker wires do Not touch each other as this Will cause a short! If you turn the receiver back on and it stays on, you now know the problem is in your speaker itself. To test your speaker, you will need a multimeter. Set it to ohms resistance and touch the speaker terminals, if there is a short internally the meter will read "1......" If it's an analog meter, it will peg to the right. There's your problem. Now, within any speaker there are quite a few possibilities as to what could be causing the problem. Most common is a blown coil and the speaker needs to be replaced. Some speakers have internal crossovers (usually floor standing speakers) and may have a shorted or burnt board (usually very visible brown burn marks on the board) and can possibly be repaired if your handy with a soldering iron. Now, if you disconnect the speaker wire at the speaker and it still says "protect" Check your wire for the obvious cut or nail thru the wire if possible. If your system has wiring that runs behind walls, you may need to use your meter again. Disconnect the wire at both ends, keep the ends separated, put your meter on ohms resistance and touch probes to the + and - wires at one side. If the meter pegs to the right or reads "1...." the wire is shorted and needs to be replaced or repaired at the short. Hope this helps.

Protect mode shuts down the receiver

If this happens only when connecting the receiver, chech the receiver cable. If the cable is fine, receiver connector at the back of receiver is faulty.

Protect mode will kick in whenever a fault is detected.

You get the unit not powering up, and sometimes you hear a clicking noise, that is the protection switch that keeps shutting down the unit.

Causes that can start protect mode are:

Electrostatic harges on internal circuits.
Leave the unit unplugged for power for one hour or so, this will allow discharge.

Bad speaker wiring.
Check speaker wiring, try unplugging and plugging back, or start after removing one speaker at the time.

Internal fault.
Internal fault is the natural cause for protect mode. If all the above did not work, then the problem is a blown component or an internal fault. In this case the unit must be taken apart , tested and repaired by an experienced person.
If the unit is less than one year old, or if you want to get service, call Sony at the phone number listed on the product documentation.

Panasonic stereo SA-PM28 displays fault code F61 then switches off

Hi dearnley1

The error code your unit is presenting relates to either a speaker cabling fault or a fault speaker. Sometimes, it is neither, and may be a fault inside the unit. Needless to say the unit is in protection moe to prevent more damage occurring. Check you speaker wiring for any short circuits or frayed wires. If all appears to be ok, disconnect the wires from the unit and see if it turns on and stays on then. If it still presents f61 with speakers and cable disconnected, then I am afraid that you may need to take the unit to a Kenwood service center near to you for an inspection . Good luck
