I have a danby 12,000 btu portable airconditioner which cuts in and out all the time. I can have the temp set at 62 degrees, and when first started it will run for about 1/2 hr before cutting out. Then it runs for about 5 min, then cuts out for about 5 min and starts up again. During the day the room temp will not go below 75 degrees. When it cuts out the blue light flashes and a code of 04 comes up. service center will not help

Re: cuts in and out
I suspect a bad compressor run capacitor. Take the unit to a service facility & have the capacitor & overload protector replaced. The overload will be weakened by the repeated cycling.

You can tell a compressor is running by measuring amp draw but you can check return air temp vs supply air temp. 15 degrees should be minimum temp split.
put a xtra fan on you to blow the cooler air around. this might help. but i think you will find it is to small to cool what your trying to cool. good luck and good day

Here is a link to a 12,000 BTU, Danby Portable AC Unit. Since you failed to mention the model number of the unit you have, I can only guess that is the same as yours. In any event, all Danby Portable AC units work the same. You can download and print this manual for future reference.
Here's a link to the Owner's Manual for your Model Danby Portable Air Conditioner. Your model has been discontinued, so download and print this manual for future reference. Making sure to keep it in a save, accessible place.
The first place to start is with the manufacturer, Danby 800-496-6049. Or take a section of the hose with you and go to your nearest home center and purchase a similar hose (same diameter) and use all the existing fittings that you have, to remount it with the new hose. There are several types available that will work well for this type of application and probably last longer than the original hose did.
sounds like very low on freon which also keeps the motor running cooler...suggest a refill because of its large btu capacity, but expensive maybe...get quotes.
