Here's a couple things to try.
It has an auto focus. This may require you to hold the camera's shutter button half way down to get the focus. Then press it all the way down to get the picture.
Make sure the flash is working or that you have enough light. It's really hard to get a pic in the dark.
Resolution may also be a problem. Resolution is how many pixels it takes to make a picture. Bump it up to the highest resolution on this cam. 2.11 Mega pixels If nothing else it will make prints look sharper.
I hope this helps.

Look at your memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).
If it is like most digital cameras nowadays, you will need to push the card inward. You will feel spring down, click, and then when you release it, it should come out slightly extended, enough so you can grab it with your fingers.
To insert, just place the card back in, push it inwards until the click, and then it will lock into place.
