Question about Sony RDR-VX515 DVD Recorder/VCR

1 Answer

CANNOT PROGRAM I recently sent my unit in for p/m and cleaning under extended warranty. Now, when attempting to connect back to the TV and set up again, I cannot get the System Menu to come up on the screen. All that comes up is a black screen with the word "VIDEO" across the top. Doesn't seem to make any difference if the switch on the remote is on TV or DVD. This is the same Sony TV that was used before to operate the unit. I have put new batteries in the remote and it doesn't make any difference. I can open/close the DVD drive drawer by the remote and also eject a tape by the remote, but cannot seem reprogram the unit for setup, clock, or recording as stated above. Could the remote control be bad or is the problem in the unit itself? Please advise.

Thank you for your reply. I found out that I did not have the RCA connections hooked up properly. I am using an outside antenna for TV reception and coaxial cable from it to the unit....however, the RCA cables have to be plugged in a certain way for the thing to work properly. After this was pointed out to me, it works fine. Live and learn ! Thanks for your reply

Do you have a universal remote? Sometimes they will forget their programming, especially when batteries are removed, or get low. If you have the codes and instructions for your remote, I would try reprogramming it. If that doesn't work, take it back to the company that did the cleaning. It worked when you sent it to them, or at least if it didn't this wasn't wrong with it. Seems to me they hold some liability in this, and should make it right without charging you.

Start up Tv waiting longtime

Hi nroks,

This is an indication of out-of-regulation in the power supply section. The very common caused of this fault is the leaky electrolytic capacitor in that section. It will drop the supply from normal voltage and will disable the unit.It needs a little warm-up to make itself stable but the symptom will get worst. Sometimes it has a bulged/dome at the top but not all, it is better that you have a capacitor checker/tester to determine its condition. Your unit will back to normal again if the leaky capacitor is isolated.

If you don't have necessary tools and test instruments, and can't do the job yourself, I would advice you to look for a professional to troubleshoot the problem. Don't attempt to work in the power supply if you don't know the safety precaution of handling it, there some stored electricity enough to hurt you with a little mistake only.

Also check if your unit is under warranty /extended warranty, avail it because the manufacturer of your unit will fix it for free. Don't open the back panel, this will void the warranty.

Hope I helped you.

Have a nice day!

My playstation3 wont show up on the tv seems to be really hot

The first thing you should do is try manually resetting the video settings on your PS3. To do this, first be sure your unit is off and the red light is visible. Hold your finger down on the power button and you will hear 3 beeps before the unit will turn off. Once this is done, turn the unit back on and you should have video.

If the unit is blinking a red light, this is known as the Yellow Light of Death for the PS3. This is caused when the unit overheats, causing the solder on the board to melt and bridge (connect). Once this happens it shorts out the board, causing the error you have now. Contact Sony and see if the unit is still under warranty.
If the unit is not under warranty, go to ore call toll free 1-888-389-3038. We are a console repair company based in Texas, and we can get your console up and running again. All of our repairs come with a 90 day warranty that covers the entire unit, not only our repairs. We also offer extended warranties up to 4 years at additional cost.

Sound distortion comes and goes...

First of all, try to have this repaired under warranty. Usually these sets have a 1 year warranty. Second, make a recording of the problem. That will help the servicer to understand the problem.

If you are not successful at the warranty repair, the first thing to look for is a power supply problem or poor connections at the audio amp area. I will attempt to locate more details while you persue the warranty claim.

Please keep us posted.

Solid black stripe down the left side of my TH-42PZ80U...I called service and they said to hold the Volume all the way down and then press menu at the same time to go into "Self Check" mode...It did...

Hold it all day it wont fix it!.Are you sure a Panasonic tech said this?

the problem is an IC chip that is faulty.
The only other possibility is that if you moved the TV recently you may have twisted or jolted one of the ribbon cables loose.

The last problem can be fixed by checking the ribbon cables are all on firmly when you open the panel up.
The first suggestion requires a return for service. If the unit is under warranty claim it now.

Please rate our help to keep the FREE service onlime++++Thanks for using FIXYA

Just unplug the comcast and see how the tv works, if the TV works fine, then you will now the trouble is not your TV.

It is not likely to have the same issue in the new TV, just unplug everything and use a dvd to see how it handle it.

My ps3 doesnt switch on it leaves a red light that justflashes???

we had the same issue when we got ours back from repairer...we have extended warranty so sent it back to repairer but then heard it was not fixable. If it is under a year then go to sony - OR buy extended warranty!!!!!

Ours would not boot up at all and only recognised on tv at 520ps when we have a 1080 tv.

I recently purchased an LG HDTV 42". The sound keeps cutting in and out intemittently. Our other home TV's do not do this. I have checked all the connections and they are tight.

If the set is under warranty, request warranty repair or exchange. This is a problem inside the set and any attempts to resolve this will require opening up the unit. If you open it up, the warranty will become void. Please request warranty service and keep us posted.

ten flashes from the light is a problem that needs to be issolated by a tech the 1st board to check is the PA board, and all the boards require authorization from panasonic to replace. that is why a tech must do the repair. if the unit is under warranty they must honor the warranty. extended warranty must honor the agreement you signed or purchased. there are a total of 6 boards that can cause the 10 flashes and can be costly to repair that is why I say when ever buying these types of sets get the extended warranty. these sets are no the sets of old they are not componet level repaired but board level repaired.

Problem, please help

The unit should be under warranty. What you're describing is not normal and I would attempt to get a replacement from the place of purchase or take the unit to an authorized repair center. Below is the Philips support page for your unit. You can check warranty status as well as request repair.

Unless it was an extended warranty, you are not suppose to get anything back from the company, but you must keep the original bill of sale to prove when you purchased the unit in case you need service while it is still under the warranty.
