When I first turn on the tv I'll get a blue screen and it'll turn its self off in approx. 2 min. then I'll turn it back on and the same thing. Takes about 5 to 10 min. to get the picture on sometimes less.
What you Have Is a Main RCA Failure you Have a Cathode to Grid Short In your Picture Tube,The Tube shorts and Tells the Miainboard to shut Down...Good Luck

One simple test is to unplug ( while the TV is OFF) the CRT & turn the TV on. You won't see or you SHOULD NOT see anything, but if the tv does not shut down, you found part of the problem. If the TV still shuts down, that is proberly not the problem. Depending on the circuit u have to continue unpluging things [ turn TV off 1st because there are a lot of circuits that don't like surges as u unplug them while they are ON !!] & see if the TV will shut down. If the TV does not shut down, check filter capacitors 1st, 2nd check resistors that have changed shape & or color.

On this model if no signal is present you normally will get a blue screen. This shutdown probably is the CRT, try adjusting the G2 slightly up or down. If the tube has changed value, resetting this will sometimes work.

Same complaint
Same Problem on a 27V414T. Had it stored for over a year but it was still in it's new and unopened box. When I finally put it in service it worked really great but but that only lasted 2 days before the problem occurred.
On the morning of the third day I turned it on and had a blue screen showing with unblanked vertical retrace lines in it. It would stay that way for about a minute and then turn itself off. Audio was still working fine but video was not. Tried other input sources and had the same results. Thompson was no help whatsoever. An email to them resuled in a generic email back with a phone number to call which was an automated service front end with no choice that applied to my problem and if I hit a 'O' to try to get to a live operator it disconnected. I have not found a service manual on-line and have no idea what to do next... Any constructive feedback would be appreciated.

I have the exact same problem. just started yesterday. all i get is a blue screen that displays: Cable Channel 3. Is this something that I can fix myself?
