Trouble transferring video onto PC

Have been trying to transfer using Picture Package (software provided with the handycam DVD403E) However system only seems to find still pictures, not video. Transfers pictures and creates a movie of stills on the PC. Then wrote the movie back to my DVD Handycam hard disk, wiping out the video I had already shot. Have lost the entire contents of two DVDs this way! Grateful for any help/advice. Thanks.

First thing to try is updating the picture package software(assuming you have windows XP); http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=DCRDVD403&UpdateType=Everything&SelectOS=7 Probably worth uninstalling and reinstalling the program before applying the update. The update doesn't claim to fix your issue, but try it anyway, there are sometimes additional parts to these updates. Here is the link for the user manual if you need it; http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-documents.pl?mdl=DCRDVD403®ion_id=1 Check page 100 - USB speed setting - see if that makes a difference. Check page 86, it has contact links for pixela, who support the software. If you record a movie, then finalise the disc before trying to transfer the video, this should stop any recording over information without formatting the disc first. then put the disk into your pc dvd drive instead of using the cable link. You should then be able to view the movies using most media player programs. Try a dvd on which there are only movie files, no still images - see if you get the same problem. Hope this helps, please ask again if you still have a problem :)

While using picture package ver 1.0 on window 7, find compatibiltiy problem, plz adv what to do.

Hi,

The supplied Picture Package Software is not compatible with the Windows 7 Operating System. The USB Streaming option in the Camcorder is also not compatible with the Windows 7 Operating System, Hence it is required to use the i.LINK or A/V cable for transferring the videos using the Windows Live Movie Maker. The latest Software, Picture Motion Browser Software is compatible with the Windows Vista and 7 Operating System, but is only used for playing back the videos or for editing. To transfer the videos you've to use the i.LINK cable or A/V cable along with the Windows Movie Maker. This is the easy method of transferring the videos. You will also get a better video quality when using the i.LINK cable as compared to the USB cable.

Thanks for using FixYa.

I have a sony handycam dcr hc36 and I also possess ppackage cd and which has been installed in my hp laptop -window vista when I am connecting my camera to laptop for streaming, there is no response,...

Connect your camera to your PC by means of FireWire cable, that is the solution.

-Stable,trouble free data transfer during video capture.
-Video transferred at its maximum resolution 720*576 pixels or something like that compared to 340*240 via USB transfer.
-100% supported by any video editing program, even the simplest Window Movie Maker. In other words, forget Sony's software - use something else that wouldn't run you.

Of course, those Firewire cable&card might be not very globally available like USB device. But still easy to find and relatively cheap to buy anyway.

I need picture package software

Forget those software.

Even windows movie maker can do as good job (if not better than) those pic.package thing. But you need to use Firewire cable&card to do the job.Firewire connection is also far superior than USB cable connection, too.

How do i transfer the data from the camera to the computer

First, make sure you are using Windows XP, Vista, or Windows7. Drivers fro the camera are included with your operating system.

Next thing to do is to install the Picture Package software on your computer. If you do not have the CD, you can download it from:

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=DCRTRV280

Select your operating system from the drop-down menu.

Next, go to

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-documents.pl?mdl=DCRTRV280

Download the Operation manual from the link provided. Save this to your computer for future use. Using the Picture Package software instructions begin on page 71.

Also note on the left side there is a link to Tutorials. When you click this there is a selection for using the Picture Package software.

Good luck, and thanks for using Fixya.

There are few things need to do in camcorder and PC for correct communication for video data transfer..

Install Picture Package software CD in PC supplied with camcorder.

Can't transfer recorded video to CD

This is a problem with the type of drives that are supported by the Picture Package software (assuming this is what you are using to transfer the video). This camcorder came with Picture package 1.0 which does not support quite a few drives (the entire list is available at www.ppackage.com). I think your drive will also fall under the same list of unsupported drives.

Macromedia Flash

I am wrting in regards to my Sony Handycam DCR-HC36. I am having problems with the Picture Package software when I try to load my video. When I try to transfer my videos (from my Handycam) to my Pesonal Computer, the picture package(software) menu does not appear on my PC(The picture package software is already installed).

Everytime I try to click on the Picture Package Icon on my desktop, there is a pop-up that says I "must install Macromedia Flash Player for Application to continue".

I went ahead and installed the Adobe (Macromedia) Flash Player and it still doesn't work when I try to click on the Picture Package Icon. The pop-up still comes up. I also, re-installed some of the requirements for the for the camera to work such as Direct X and Windows Media Player.

I also enabled my Javascript(active Script).

The problem is most likely within my PC(maybe I'm missing another type of software???), what do you think are my options in resolving this matter?

Please help me out
