You don't need any special software in order to use your camera.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or, despite what I said first, you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

SOURCE: V1253 Kodak Lens stuck open, will not power on

hi...The transmission system that moves the lens in and out has a problem with it's gears. There is most likely a gear or an actuator that has fallen out of alignment and is getting stuck at a certain point as the lens comes in/out.There is some disturbacnce of the lens arrangement that is preventing the lens from coming in/out.
Any of these symptoms above could trigger the camera to shut itself off to protect itself from further damage.
thank u rate me!!!

SOURCE: My Kodak v1253 has the error

Assuming you have the battery and memory card in the camera, turn the camera on by pressing down the two buttons on the top left of the camera together at the same time.

Testimonial: "So far your suggestion has worked, I just hope it doesn't shut down when I need it this weekend. THANKS!"

I have Kodak Easyshare V1253 (only Kodak), and I use SD Card Transcend 4GB. I used this card long time without formatting. Now I tried to format it as I got this advice from my friend and since this time,...

Where are you formatting the card?...in the camera or the computer? It must be formatted in the camera. When you pull it out of the computer, do you remember to use the "safely remove hardware" function so the card does not become corrupted?

I need to use my Kodak EasyShare V1253 as a WebCam, how do I do this?

Sorry, you can't. The V1253 is designed to store images and videos to memory, not to stream them live to another device.

How much for Kodak V1253 circuit board cost, and does it ez to replace it?

An Out of Warranty repair for this model for this fault is about 88 pounds + shipping. KODAK also offers a Trade up option where you will have the opportunity to trade up to a newer model 25-30% cheaper than the market price.

In order to arrange your repair/Trade up: Contact KODAK:
http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-path=14563&pq-locale=en_US&_requestid=3490

I'll suggest you should try to upload new firmware:

Connect the camera with the computer.
Turn the camera on.
Click onto the link and follow the instructions.

The lense pushes forward halfway when turned on

Hi!
I'm afraid you will have to give it away for a repair - it sounds like the lens get stuck in the halfway - could be dirt, sand or something in the reductor or the lens are damaged.
I work in a Kodak service center.

Hope this helps!

Easy share V1253...will not stay on...lens will not telescope

I have had the same issue were the lens would not retract. took it in for extended warranty work. lens now retracts but takes lousy pictures.

When I purchased this camera family members ran out and bought thiers shortly after I did. One by one the same issue has happend to their v1253's.

I dissmantled one and found that there is a tiny battery on the power board inside of the camera. apparently the tiny battery's life is about 1 1/2 years. This battery is not serviceable as it is welded in place. I am not one hundred percent sure if this is the cause but it makes sense.

It would be nice if kodak would own up to this issue and make good on repairs as they did with my kodak 5500 all-in-one printer and it's crappy print head. Kodak has sent me 4 print heads in the 2 years I have owned it.

I have 5 of the v1253's in my family and every one of the are dead. I would think a $250 product should last longer than 1 1/2 years.
Hope this helps you out.
