Try for a re-set. See your manual How you do this can be a mystery because every make model it seems is different. If you have several button to press for various actions try this. Turn the printer off- press any two buttons together and whilst they are pressed switch on- holding the buttons down. Now I do not know how many buttons or combinations you can make on this particular machine so it will be a process of elimination. You could also get onto Canon Tech Support team. SOURCE: paper jam

You can find the manual here http://alpha03u.c-wss.com/inc/ApplServlet?SV=WWUCA900 page 119 of the pdf gives you instructions how to remedy the situation. However since you state that there is no visible paper jam, it is probably a bad sensor. A google search yielded no results for replacement sensors. You will have a hard time finding any replacement parts for printers in the less than $100 catagory. Try this, I have located a sensor on a similar model multifunction cannon. Open the lid like you are changing out the ink. Right behind the rail that the ink heads move on just to the right of center you will see a black sensor flag. That flag is attached to a spring which brings it back. You should be able to see a small opening with tiny coiled spring next to the sensor flag. There is a LED that shines to a sensor. When the paper passes through the printer it hits the flag causing it to lift up and break the beam of light between the LED and the sensor. That is how your printer knows there is paper inside. Either it is jammed in the up position, or the spring fell off and the sensor flag is not reseting itself. if that doesn't work Do what they did in office space when it said paper jam when there is no paper jam. SMASH IT. and buy a new one. Hack
