Here is the page of your owners manual that shows how to auto defrost. It is a bit hard to read. If you have your owners manual still, it is on page 24.
Hope this helps.

You read the weight of the food on package (in lbs)
Put the food on a microwave safe plate /container.
Close the door.
Press the Defrost by weight button
Enter the weight of the food. The time will be set automatically.
If you have a defrost by time, just decide on the time duration and enter it
F-3 is usually for the temperature sensor being faulty. What you need most likely is to replace the temperature sensor. This would explain why your microwave oven exhaust fan keeps going off, because your temperature sensor is telling it that it is overheating even though it isn't.
The defrost cycle is relative to the cooling coils and not the interior temprature. Frost showing up means air is leaking into the fridge... To resolve, you need to observe the cooling coils are free from buildup. it it the coils, usually under panels, that should be attracting the moisture, and the defrost cycle clears that buildup, and not any buildup in the main (user accessable) areas of the fridge....
Defrost timers are not too expensive, consider blindly changing that...but totally defrost the unit around the coils or you will never get past the issue.
I HAVE A PANASONIC MICROWAVE,MODEL NN-6372AWM,SOMEONE WAS GOING TO USE IT AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY PUNCHED,BUT IT NOW SAYS LOCK ON THE SCREEN,THE DOOR WILL OPEN BUT YOU CANNOT USE THE TIMER.HAVE HAD IT ABOUT 10 YEARS,WORKS FINE,LOST THE BOOK ON IT.CAN ANYONE TELL ME HOW TO UNLOCK IT.I AM SURE IT HAS A CODE.
you might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice, defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow. You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model
