Hi i have dell desktop pc i have install windows xp home dell model is OptiPlex GX270 after installing all DRIVERS BUT STILL IM NOT ABLE TO GET LAN DRIVER AND ITS NOT SHOWING ICON S AS WELL
and typing in ther service tag, it will bring you to the page where you can select the driver. When you have the ethernet cord pluged into the pc, do any of the lights come on? (the orange and green light right where you plug the cord in. Go into the device manager (right click my computer->properties->hardware->device manager)
look for anything that has a caution symbol (yellow).
this is the direct link to page for divers, under network, download the last one.(http://support.dell.com/support/download...=) That is the actual driver, after you download it and launch it, go back to device manager to see if anything changed.

Have you turned on the LAN in through the BIOS setup screen?
