Is it a truly genuine Lexmark cartridge? Many printers are *very* finicky now on cart. type. If not, try a real one and see if you get that msg. Good luck. GuruTim
The Lexmark machines are designed to kick out anything it suspects may be refilled. If your old cartridge has bad print nozzles this may be tripping the error. Printers are typically for sensitive with their color cartridges anyway because the manufacturers make more money on the color ones. You can try looking around the settings on the machine and in the printer preferences to see if you can tell it to ignore the ink levels and see if you can continue to print.
You may want to remove the power brick at the back of your printer, wait a few seconds and reinsert back. Then try the steps listed in the user guide to install new carts, page 42.
Take a piece of kitchen tissue (not cloth) dampen it and wipe over the print heads. If you don't see any ink on the tissue do it again until you do, Then let them air dry and try again.
The original Lexmark-branded 81 and 82 cartridges shouldn't cause a problem - regardless of the country of origin. I can't speak to any reman or refills, because quality varies widely. Have you contacted Lexmark's technical support - accessible via www.lexmark.com? There should be a solution for the Lexmark-branded cartridges. If that doesn't work, put one of the "bad" Lexmark cartridges in their recycling bag and include a note about your problem, including your email address.
Pull the cartridge check to make sure you removed the seal. Take a damp cloth gently wipe across the ink openings. If you get ink reinstall. Go to printer settings and make sure you are not set on documents black and white but on colour printing. Go to maintainance run test page several times. hope this works for you.
Your ink cartridges have dried out. Replace the black to confirm this prognostication and, if black works, replace color also. If you are into refilling ink cartridges youself try soaking the black one in 91% rubbing alcohol in a small ziploc type bag for several days. when the alcohol becomes ink colored, remove the cartridge from the baggie, dry it with tissue paper, reinstall it in the printer and up to 3 times run a clean the nozzles page until it prints a solid black line. Repeat with the color cartridge. Good luck.
