The printer display tells me to 'replace belt CG', I've replaced the OPC Belt but still have message. Are they the same thing as I can't find any reference to CG belt in the manual? If they are one of the same then why am I still getting the message to replace it?

To reset page counter after replacing the OPC belt or FC Roller please follow the steps below:
Power the printer on while holding down MENU/ENTER key
Release the key when the display shows "Utility Menu Clear FC Roll"
If you have replaced the FC Roller then select this option by pressing MENU/ENTER key. If you have replaced the OPC belt then change this option by pressing MEDIA key so the display changes to "Utility Menu Clear Belt CG".
When one of these options is selected Press the MENU/ENTER key and the display will change to "Utility Menu Clear FC. Roll/ Clear Belt CG Not Execute". Press the MEDIA key and the display will change to "Execute"
Press the MENU/ENTER key and after about 10 seconds the display will change to "Completed Clear FC. Roll / Belt CG"
Now power the printer off and after waiting few seconds power it on again, after it's initial self-diagnosis the printer should now work normally without the error message.

The error can either be caused by the OPC/OPC Marker assembly or the Main Motor assembly. Please follow the recommended troubleshooting steps:
Power the printer off, remove and reseat the OPC unit, and power the machine back on. Print a test page. If error continues, proceed to step 2.
Power the printer off and remove the OPC unit. Check the OPC Marker Sensor. If it is unsnapped or unplugged, reseat or replug it, and power the printer back on. Print a test page. If error continues, proceed to step 3.
Remove the OPC unit and check it for scratches or defects. Also check the the markers on the OPC to make sure they are not damaged. Is the belt scratched or damaged? If the OPC is at or near the end of its life, OPC unit must be replaced. If the belt is in good condition, contact Lexmark technical support (if printer is under warranty) or your local authorized service provider for assistance.
The 'Replace Belt CG' message on the 8008 indicates the OPC Belt (Green Reflective Belt which is located in the top of the printer) has reached the end of its life and needs to be replaced to ensure the print quality is maintained.
If you are happy with the print quality you can clear the message via the control pannel on the printer, you will however need to remember you have cleared the error in the future when print quality is reduced you will then need to replace the OPC Belt.
The ‘Replace Belt CG’ message can be cleared in the following way;
With the printer OFFLINE hold down the MENU button for 2-3 seconds until the display changes UTILITY MENU and then release the MENU button Press the MENU button once more The display will read "Utility Menu Clear Belt CG", press the MENU button once more The display will change to "Clear Belt CG Not Execute" by pressing MEDIA/> key again the display will change to "Execute" Press the MENU/ENTER key again after 10 seconds the display will change to "Completed Clear belt CG" Press the UP ARROW button twice to exit the Utility Menu Press the ONLINE button to return the printer to the ONLINE state
The ‘Replace Belt CG’ message will now be cleared.
Set Belt CG The OPC belt cartridge needs replacement.
Replacing the Optical Photoconductor (OPC) Belt Cartridge Replace the OPC belt cartridge at least once every 12 months, or when the control panel display indicates that replacement is necessary. The life of the OPC belt cartridge for the T8106 is about 60,000 images (15,000 color pages), at a 5% toner coverage rate on letter-size paper. 1. Turn the power switch off. 2. Unlock the lever to open the front cover. This releases the pressure on the toner cartridges. 3. Unlock the lever to open the top cover fully. 4. Pull the green OPC belt cartridge lock levers up until they unlock.
5. Pull the used OPC belt cartridge upward and out of the printer carefully to avoid spilling toner. 6. Discard the used OPC belt cartridge Caution! Do not touch or wipe off any powder that is on the OPC belt, nor expose the OPC belt to light. 7. Remove the two shipping pins from the new OPC belt cartridge. 8. Remove the protective sheet that covers the photosensitive belt. 9. Slide the new OPC belt cartridge downward into both green lock-lever guides and into the printer carefully. 10. Push the green OPC belt cartridge lock levers down until they lock. 11. Close the top and front covers carefully until they both lock.
You are correct the 'Belt CG' is the OPC belt cartrige. The mesage advising this item needs to be replaced comes up as the result of a page counter in the printer. The mesage comes up as a result of the page counter exceeding the maximum number of pages expected from the OPC, ensuring reliable print qulaity.
The message does not indicate the OPC Belt is damage, it has reached the end of its designed life.
The Set Belt CG message on the 8008 indicates the printer is not detecting the OPC belt (the green reflective belt located in the top of the printer)
Try removing the Belt Cartridge and relocate this in the pritner, if this fails to fix the problem remove the Belt Cartridge from the printer then look down one side of the belt- (I think the left side of the belt), for black squares (I think there are two) the printer uses these to detect the Belt Cartridge is rotating. Check for damage to the Belt in this area. If the printer does not detect the belt as rotating it will indicate this error.
If the Belt Cartridge looks ok, remove the Belt Cartridge from the printer then look down the hole left in the printer when the belt cartridge is removed. Look for any obstuctions, also look at the black belt which is towards the back of the printer when you look in the top ( the transfer belt, I think) Look to see if there is any damage to this it may cause the Set Belt CG message.
To reset page counter after replacing the OPC belt or FC Roller please follow the steps below:
Power the printer on while holding down MENU/ENTER key
Release the key when the display shows "Utility Menu Clear FC. Roll"
If you have replaced the FC Roller then select this option by pressing MENU/ENTER key, if you have replaced the OPC belt then change this option by pressing MEDIA key so the display changes to "Utility Menu Clear Belt CG".
When one of these options is selected by pressing MENU/ENTER key, the display will change to "Utility Menu Clear FC. Roll/ Clear Belt CG Not Execute" by pressing MENU/ENTER key again the display will change to "Execute"
Press the MENU/ENTER key again after 10 seconds the display will change to "Completed Clear FC. Roll / belt CG"
Now power the printer off and after waiting few seconds power it on again, after it's initial self-diagnosis the printer should now work normally without the error message.
This didn't solve the problem. But i decided to get a net printer anyway.
