We went to use it one day and discovered that it won't turn on. Tried recharging both batteries, to no avail.
My wife thinks it might have gotten wet, so we've taken out card, battery and let it sit for over 3 weeks. Still nothing.
Any advice?
I have yhe same problem. I have discovered that the Thin PCB for the buttons are the problem. If you find a fellow with another C765 fault you can exchange the display and keyboard. If I understand Olympus they can repair to a very high price.

If the rechargeable battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced. Rechargeable batteries will fail if stored in a discharged state for long periods.

If you tried turning the laptop on with NO battery but plugged into the mains and you get no response, even no little lights flickering then its possible that something to do with the motherboard (obviously, you might think) but get someone too look inside it if you can, something might be fried. its a bit hard not actually seeing the machine

If it has a rechargeable pack on it try swapping it out with a "AA" battery pack. sometimes the rechargeable batteries can go bad. If the controller still won't turn on then you have an internal problem and you will need a new controller. :) Or you can try getting your controller fixed, although there in not very many people that are willing to work on controllers
I think the battery was already damaged,a rechargeable battery once you use it,it needs to recharge again so that the battery memory will stay longer.use a new one,regards....
This player is effectively destroyed by using it on a computer that runs either Windows Media Player 11 or Vista. You can try doing a repair in Philips Device Manager, but this is very nearly an obsolete mp3 player.
