Black square in middle of screen when I use my PVR (like TVO) remote
Hi, I just bought a 26 in. Insignia flat screen, and have it currently hooked up (through antenna) to my Personal Video Recorder cable box (with Videotron in Canada). Whenever I change the channel, or use the majority of the buttons on the remote, a large black square appears in the middle screen. It disappears when I press "exit" on the TV remote. This just started on the 3rd day I have owned this brand new TV. Its very aggrivating!!!

Same problem, pretty much whole screen goes black when the program goes to a commercial break. Press exit button and it clears up. Only had the tv now 1 month....guess its back to the store for another model.Same problem, pretty much whole screen goes black when the program goes to a commercial break. I have a 19in TV. The black screen comes up when I turn the TV on. It does not go away. I have owned the TV for 11 months.

I am seeing similar issues ( 26 inch Insignia ), I see the problem any time I am on a channel that has any kind of " ticker " on it, ESPN, CNN, HLN...etc..... I am curious is anyone knows if there is a fix for it. Not sure if it is service provider specific....

I would take it back to the store and exchange it for a new one. Any problems with new equipment out of the box like that is a sign of a manufacturers defect.

Check on the cable connection between TV and cable box, secure tightly hook up. Then check input setting for HDMI - normally HDMI 1/2/3 , then "COAX" use channel 3 or 4/ You can also try to press arrow down button until you reach a channel. If you are using cable remote try to also check the input setting using original Tv remote control. Then try to powercycle the cable box and Tv conenction.
Sounds like your closed caption is on. In the menu or on the remote there should be a setting or button for the CC. It seems to be in the text mode. Either turn it off or change the setting from text.
look for a button on the remote that says " cc " your closed captioning is turned on, probably in the text mode. turn off the close captioning and your black box will disappear.
Unfortunately with this model of Insignia you MUST have the remote that comes with that model number in order to unlock it. Other Insignia remotes won't work. So I have ordered another remote from an online company. Hopefully that will work. I'll probably have to call Insignia to have them walk me through it once the remote arrives.
Mark, Stupid me did not buy the additional warranty that I could have.. I have bought warranty on every television I have ever bought, and never once did I even need it. Even til this moment I still have the reg tv's and they all work great....On this flat screen, it isn't always this black squares pop up. I might also add, they do not stay in one spot. one moment it will be flashing at the bottom, the next it might be at the top or in the middle...then it waont do anything for weeks....any Ideals??????thanks for trying to help[
