Question about Sony Handycam DCR-PC105 Mini DV Digital Camcorder
I bought my Sony Handycam DCR-PC105 Mini DV Digital Camcorder several years ago and have been very pleased with it's quality, features and durability. I have never had a mechanical issue with this camera until last week. Last week, I noticed that the power zoom lever on the camera stopped working. I am still able to zoom in and out using the remote control. There is also another smaller issue which I noticed last week that I can live with, but I'm only mentioning in case it is related to the zoom issue. When I turn the camera on, I get a "CLOCK SET" message. If I set the clock, it will only stay in the camera's memory as long as the battery is attached. Once I change the battery, the message re-appears. I understand that there is an internal re-chargable battery which should keep this information while the camera battery is un-attached. It has worked for years, but now, at the same time the zoom has failed me, this problem arose. Are they related? I would love to keep using this camera, but can't find anyone to fix it at a reasonable cost. If anyone knows what the problem is and how I can fix it, I would really appreciate the advice.
Hello, please try to use the memory stick. If there is a message MS error, please look at this picture. Best regards, Arpi If you need more info please advice.

Here is the picture...
Hello again.
The other problem is your (internal) backup batterry. In order to solve this please connect your camcorder to the mains using your AC adaptor and leave your camcorder with the power switch set to off (CHG) for more than 24 hours.
Best regards,
Arpi
Hello,
the (external) camcorder battery should be attached to the camcorder during the charge.
In order to supply you with the picture in higher resolution please give me your email address.
Best regards,
Arpi

The most likely cause for this is a zoom or focus lens out of place and can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.
My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

I have a few questions reguarding your solutions.
- When trying to charge the (internal) backup battery, do suggested leaving the camera charging for more than 24 hours. Should the (external) camera battery be attached to the camera during this time?
- As for trying the memory stick, I do not own one, so I ordered one from ebay and will have to wait a week to try it out. While I'm waiting, can you send a higher resolution image, or the link to the original? The image in this posting is hard to read, even when I blow it up in photoshop.
Arpi,
My email address is [email protected]
Thanks,
Steve
I just received the memory stick and tried it out. I am not experiencing any MS errors. Does this mean I should try changing the part you've suggested through your picture, or should I try something else?

Hello Arpi,
I've supplied my email address six days ago and have yet to receive the higher resolution image you offered. I also posted a question four days ago that you have not responded to. Can you please follow up on whether I should change the part you suggested, or try something else. My power zoom lever still doesn't work but the zoom works using the remote control. I tried using the memory stick but did not get any MS error. Since I did not see the MS error you predicted, does this mean your solution is still viable, or should I try something else. If you still suggest I follow the instructions described in your picture, can you please send me a higher resolution copy to my email so I can read it?
Thank you,
Steve
