Hi! Just want to ask how can I connect my viewsonic monitor from computer to dvd player?

Get an adaptor, you don't say what model of monitor you have so I can't be more specific, You will probably also need speakers from the DVD player to get sound and an amplifier and the correct leads. But why bother? if you want to watch DVDs on your monitor then play them on your computer.

Can I plug a PC into one of the Onkyo HDMI ports? (TX-SR605)

Mike, I would agree. ANY device that either IS or emulates any hi-fi A/V device should work just fine assuming it doesn't deviate from the hardware standards of the 'real' hardware. Your Media PC is just another digital source as far as the receiver knows. Manuals don't mention everything because it is assumed that we know we can substitute compatible devices among the various in/outputs.

However, my own practice is to run every signal directly to the best device that enhances or uses it. NO VIDEO to my AVR (it goes directly to my monitor); NO HIGH-END AUDIO to the TV (it goes directly to my receiver). NO EXCESSIVE CABLES. NO PROBLEMS WITH UNNECESSARY CONNECTIONS. NO CORRUPTION OF ANY THE SIGNAL.

My PC's soundcard feeds both digital and analog audio inputs on my receiver so I have the flexibility of manipulating it in the analog domain for re-recording or just listening.

I can't get closed caption off my dvd player

Some DVD players cannot handle closed captions. Cheaper or older hardware players sometimes strip out the closed caption data. Players that have a progressive scan mode sometimes block captions when in this mode. And anything that's connected with an HDMI cable can't pass through captions. Most software players that you use when you play a DVD on your computer don't have any way to decode the captions. Windows Media Player can display DVD captions, and Apple DVD Player can display pop-on captions but not roll-up style captions. Certain paid versions of WinDVD and PowerDVD have CC capability. Look in your player's preferences to see if there are any closed caption options.

I am not getting any video output when I connect my VCR to the receiver. I connected RCA cables from VCR to the receiver, and S-video from the receiver's "monitor out" to the TV.

The s-video and the fact that it goes directly to the TV is superior to the composite video running through the receiver. I don't understand why AVR's recommend having video pass through them.

Hi, I bought recently a new 5.1 Surround Sound System Logitech X-530 and want to connect it to our new LCD LG 32LD450 HD TV. The LG TV has apart from all Digital, Optical and RCA Connections as well one...

You can't connect the speakers to your TV. I doesn't have any audio output available, just inputs. Those are for connecting the audio from sources like DVD players, and they go in to the TV's sound system. But there's no way of getting the sound out except through the set's internal speakers. The surround system you got is great for a computer, but it's not what you need for TV use.

The only solution I can offer is the suggestion that you invest in a home theater receiver. You can get decent basic systems with the receiver (often with DVD/audio CD playback capability built in) and surround speakers at reasonable prices. Then you use that to drive the speakers, and use the TV just as a video monitor. Then you will have surround sound.

My dvd player is hooked up to the samsung receiver. I am using two remotes, one is the cable box remote where I hit tv and power and then cable and power and then the red power button on the samsung remote...

What you have to do is select the proper item on the receiver since that is what you have the dvd player connected to. Pressing bd/dvd on the receiver is not necessarily the right thing to do. All receivers have an input or source or function button that will enable you to choose the correct area where your device is connected. The way you have this hooked up may not be right but first things first. You will need to have a movie playing in the DVD player so that you see the numbers advancing. Go to each input/source/function on the receiver until you hear the DVD. Ok great! Now getting the picture is a little more tricky so please follow along carefully.

The cables going from the DVD player to the receiver: The cables should be connected to where it says OUT on the DVD player or hdmi out from the DVD player to one of the receivers INputs. Once that proper connection has been confirmed make sure the receiver is connected to the television for both video and audio. You must have a video cable as well as audio cables between the television and the receiver or an hdmi cable. If it is not connected to the television in this way that is the problem right there. In fact you probably have a cable going from the television's audio OUT going INto the receiver. In order to see your DVD player you will also need to connect the receiver's video OUT to the television's video IN.

You will need the television's remote to be able to change the source/input/video/aux on the television. You might be able to change it with the cable box remote by pressing tv and then input/source/video.

ALTERNATELY: You can connect the DVD player's Video OUT directly into the television's INput. The DVD player's Audio OUT cables would be connected directly to the receiver's IN.

Either way you will have to choose the correct input on the receiver as well as on the television itself.
Good luck!

Can't figure out why there isn't an out on my curtis mathes for surround sound with sub. When we bought the "tv" from a friend we thought it was a "flat screen tv" it says on...

In most cases the TV is used just as an input device, and they frequently have no output jacks. Usually the TV is hooked up as part of a home theater system, and is used as a video monitor while the sound is taken care of by a receiver or amplifier. The sound comes from the video source (DVD player, set-top box, etc.). Some TV sets have audio output available, but it sounds like yours doesn't. If you want to have surround sound, you'll need to invest in a receiver and speakers.

My sound doesn't work with the DVD fuction. It works on the Tuner, the VHS1 but not DVD. Do I need to connect the S-Video cable or what else should I try?

S-video would be a better choice than (yellow) composite video but it won't help the sound.

Not knowing anything about the DVD player and how you have it wired we can only guess what is wrong with IT or the connection to the KLH.

Have you looked at the manuals for the DVD and the KLH? You don't just hook it up and run with it. Digital Audio must be assigned, for example, and other stuff.
