There are 24 black lines (one inch to 3 inches in length). coming up from the bottom of my Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop computer. After awhile the lines start getting squiggly, turn purple and spread out...

Try to connect an external monitor to the laptop if the lines are there then it's the video chip on the motherboard. But if you don't see ant lines on the external then it's the LCD on the laptop and it can be replaced. If you can't perform the work yourself take it to a local repair shop.

I'm having problems with video playback

Hi. Does it happen in all videos titles or just one film? If it only happen in only one video then the film or video is corrupted. If it happens in all videos when you play then try reinstalling the graphics driver. Hope it helps!

Multiple squiggly lines fill the LCD screen, after

Sounds to me like your inverter has gone bad. Typically it's situated just below your LCD. To get to it you will have to take out the screws around the LCD bezel. It's a long, skinny circuit board that the LCD plugs into. You can usually find a replacement on Ebay. Just be sure that you're ordering the correct part, otherwise it may not fit or work properly. I've also had times when the entire LCD was going bad and the display was full of squiggly lines. It's hard to say which one is the cause. I would try replacing the inverter first. That part is usually much cheaper than the LCD is.
