solutions posted here
how do you open this camera , i have all the screws out ,and
all i need now is to open the camera from the top end,
my lcd screen comes up in blotches , ie from the rain damage ,
can that be fixed , or do i need a new screen . kind regards , for any solution posted . CH
The P850 has two hidden screws under the eye view finder. You need to remove the rubber eye piece by removing the two screws and pressing in a downward direction. You will see the two holes for the screws.
Once your LCD has gone blotchy, that means its probably time to get a new one. Water has either leaked inside and ruined it or there is damage in the wiring. As for opening your camera, once all screws are out, it usually a matter of clips on the inside that snap the 2 halves of the camera together. I don't own this camera so I would suggest using a small flat head screwdriver and gently prying around trying to find the clips.

you should replace the lcd screen from an authorized service center. or you can buy the lcd screen alone from ebay and find someone to replace it .remember never open the camera unless you know very well how to replace it.thanks for using fixya. please dont forget to rate my solution
The camera is defective. But as you've only had the camera three months it still is under warranty. Canon is usually very responsive to these type of problems and will bend over backwards to make things right (probably the most responsive of the camera companies).
While this is not a permanent solution, we've fond it helps... We have a Samsung LCD that does not turn on when there is too much humidity in the room. This only happens in the summer when it gets really humid. We moved our dehumidifier next to it, let it run for around 15 minutes and the TV turned on again, no problem. Lately, it's been raining alot so it's very humid. We've gotten into the habit of leaving our dehumidifier on through the night on low and we've had not issues turning on the tv since then. This is a hastle but it's either that or buying a new tv.
Oh my gosh this really works! Our screen went white, we hadn't dropped it or anything. The camera still worked fine but we just couldn't see what we were taking a picture of. We tried this solution and now we can see the picture through the screen perfectly. THANKS for posting this!
That is definately a cracked lcd your describing! I doubt there is an easy solution but maybe...
If you are able to get into the menu and disable the LCD that might help.
However! The fact that the LCD is broken shouldn't keep the camera from running (though its remotely possible)
If you can't shut it off or work without it the odds are you've got an expensive paperweight.
At least thats what I gather based on your description.
on the front of the camera, under the flash, two inches from the lens, hit this spot not hard just firm. Do it with the cam ON so you can see it work. Now if you want to fix it you will need to take it apart
