Refrigerator and Freezer Stopped/Reduced Cooling

I have a Kenmore Side by Side. The freezer has stopped cooling and the ice has melted completely (I cam home to find the bottom of the freezer full of water). Ice is no longer being made (obviously), but there is a little cool air on the freezer side. On the refrigerator side, the air is still somewhat cool but much less so than normal and not enough to properly cool the contents to keep them fresh. The motor and fan seem to still be running, its just not cooling/freezing any longer.

SOURCE: Refrigerator not cooling

You will have to let it run for a while, then take the interior back cover off the freezer side to look at the frost pattern on the coils. There should be a nice even white frost on them all, if there is a solid block of ice the defrost cycle isn't working and if there is not much frost but a few inches then you likely have a sealed system leak (no more refrigerant). There can be other issues like the compressor start device not working or the temp control failed, etc. so we will have to go back and forth to do more troubleshooting. Repost with more info when you have it.

SOURCE: I have a Kenmore coldspot side by side- not cooling properly

Setting it to 5 is what the manufacturer recommends. If you set it to 1 and the frig is still not cold, then you probably have a faulty cold control (thermostat)

You are probably storing items too close to the top shelf of the freezer, stopping circulation.

Why is my smeg fridge not keeping anything cool

Hi...the same thing has happened to me. My Smeg Fab28 refrigerator compartment has stopped cooling. The freezer still works. There was a build up of ice on the back fridge wall, and the milk was freezing up, so I turned down the temp. After the ice melted, I heard a bang like a bunch of ice had dropped. I turned the temp back up but it steadily stopped cooling even more. I decided to defrost the freezer, and had the power off completely for about 5 hours. When I turned it back on, the freezer worked, but the fridge is not cooling AT ALL.

Did you fix the problem and if so, how?

Thank you
Bev

The refrigerator side has stopped cooling.

, you might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice, defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow.
You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model

Refrigerator and freezer not cooling/freeding

Possibly a defrost circuit problem -

1) Bad defrost thermostat
2) Bad defrost heater
3) Bad defrost timer
4) Failed evaporator fan motor.

Look for frost accumulated inside the louvers at the back panel, top and bottom. If you see it, remove food from freezer and put in ice chest. Take out shelves, get hair dryer and warm the backside of the freezer, directing air down the louvers. Then leave to sit for 4-6 hours with the freezer door open. Put towels in the bottom of the freezer to catch any melted ice.
After period of time, plug unit back in and power the unit back up. Once you know it's cooling, empty ice chests back into freezer.

If there is a problem in any of the above components, then it will show up in 3-4 weeks witht he same problem again.
