Also if that doesn?t work check the system BIOS master and slave drive settings on both IDE channels. Make sure the one your drive is connected to is set to on or auto detect otherwise Windows won?t see the drive. Some assemblers turn the unused parts off to speed the boot process.

Make sure that when you fitted the drive that the plastic jumper cap on the back of the writer was set to master if used on it's own IDE cable, or set as slave if it is sharing and IDE cable with another drive, you will find the master and slave positions either underneath the unit or above the jumpers at the back.
