Power supply/convergence issue...

I have a Panasonic Proj. TV, PT4743G which I bought about 54 years ago. Based on what I've been reading on this site, I thought I had a convergence problem (red won't line up) and now I'm getting some bowing effect. Authorized Panasonic dealers took TV today and did full diagnostic test. Said it's a power supply problem which is causing the convergence problem. Power supply would cost $500 - $550 (includes labor) and the convergence just needs an overhaul after that. 1 year warranty on part and 90 day on labor. They claim that all should be good after the power supply fix and the overhaul on the convergence. Does this sound right (ie. price and power supply issue). I need to get back to them to authorize the repair or say forget it and count my losses!! What's going on with these new tv's??? I have the old ****tube from 20 years ago that still works!!

It is indeed a power supply problem and if bowing is also present the flyback transformer is also shot Repairs for these items would be about $280-300 for parts + labour

Your Projo is a complicated piece of equipment, involving 3 picture tubes (like 3 tv's), convergence failures are extremely common, I dont think $550 is totally unreasonable, but I dont think it is a power supply issue if it is just effecting 1 color, usually it would cost around $100 parts $300 labor to repair, might be a little high, I suppose they are also charging you for pickup and delivery, I hate taking sets into office as that sometimes jars stuff loose or cracks boards.

Try to follow the inverter to backlight connections---either a loose or damaged plug (look for any plug with tape on it at the plug first) or on the board that powers the lights a bad solder connection or connections where plugs connect.

Hello I bought a Samsung tv about 2-3 years ago and I have the serial #, model # and I am trying to find the value of the tv bc it had been damaged by the shipping company

It will be based on current value of the same size or comparable TV made now. The TV's usually cost less now then they did a few years ago and yet usually do more. Their insurance company will set a value and in the mean time price new sets with basically the same features

Is the power indicator flashing three times? If so the Ics have shorted shutting the set down. You will need two STK392-110 convergence ICs. You can get replacement ICs at the following link with free installation instructions.

If it's less than a year old, it should be under warranty, and I wouldn't open it. I would recommend that you contact your nearest Panasonic-authorized servicer. You can find one here:

http://www2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/vServiceLocator?storeId=15001

It may be a failing turntable motor, fan motor, but it really merits close inspection.

This is an inverter-based model, and due to the lethal voltages used and produced, I do not recommend that an inexperienced person work on these.

If you need your owner's manual, you can download it here:

We're happy to help and we appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.
