Service Request errors in the range 00010004 - 000101D are related to a carriage movement problem. In some instances like paper jams, the carriage locking tab may be partially pushed in, causing the carriage locking mechanism to put a drag on the carriage or lock the carriage completely.
There is a chrome lever on the right side of the carriage on top that should manually release the carriage by pushing down on it. If this works but there is no spring tension pulling the carriage to the left, then the drawband is probably broken. If pushing the lever down doesn't work then eithor the mechanism is broken or locked up or there is a carriage lock that need to be released. If there is a carriage lock it would be located under the carriage on the left or right side. It would be a small chrome lever sticking out the side.
There is a little lever under the carriage on the left, used for locking the carriage when in transit.Move the lever in the opposite direction,if that does not work press the Capital Lock Key then try it.If this does not work,it will be your carriage return spring having lost its tension. This is the round drum(wheel ) on the back of the carriage connected by a cord.

Slide the carriage to the left and look for any paper that also may be restricting the carriage from moving freely.

The T-Fence may also be dirty or out of the carriage encoder. Check to make sure it is clean and in the center of the encoder. Contact Epson for additional assistance.
I think there's a lock there in the spacing. Mine can be locked by pulling the spacing lever far upward. Just set your spacing and I think it will unlock.
If the locking lever is off, then the carriage is bound, or one of the tabs is hung, try releasing all the tabs, pushing the space bar or the tab key while gently moving the carriage. Try all of the function like shift while gently pushing on the carriage always to the right.. also check the that the margins are not locked. This could be a lot of different things...
Check if you haven't moved the scanner lock lever accidentally - find the lock lever (used to immobilize the carriage in transport) and move it to locked position, then to unlocked, and power up your unit. Chances are that the carriage was not dislocated when trying to move while locked, and will start to operate. If it's not that, it may be a number of things, like broken belt, encoder strip (if any), carriage motor fault - things you won't be able to repair yourself.
