First try to to restore to an earlier date ,if it ran well before on this version of windows. Go to the company website and find your model and download the updated drivers and install them.This will help speed it up. Clean and defrag the harddrive. If this doesn't work for you, download the original restore cd,again from the company website for your model and reinstal it.
If you are not desiring to have the original windows version then you only options are to either find the Windows disk that you lost or buy a new one.

Windows XP comes on a single DVD ROM. It should have been supplied with your laptop. This disk should include all the drivers for your laptop.

You can try installing window 7, chances are you will need to set the boot order to activate the CD/DVD driver, backdoor passwords are very dangerous it can corrupt the bios and disable leaving you in a worse mess.

I have samsung rv 509 i3,500 gb laptop.i tried installing windows7. it gets installed but when the installation is complete,,,it stucks on STARTING WINDOWS...and dont go further beyond this... xp works...

I solved same problem.
Just format the system tools partition 100MB/350MB and then go for clean installation (format of disk 0 and install) 99.99% you problem will clear.

I have hp copmaq nx 6310 laptop . i was installing windos xp service pack 3 but poer shouot down , now when i on the lap top its shows black screen , windos not booting not taking aslo i tried but...

Hi, lets get you some help.
I am afraid there is not much you can do except re-install Windows. the reinstall may be able to repair the damage and provide a quicker result.
You need to get your repair DVD and insert that then turn the PC and boot from the DVD.
