Game freeze My 40g ps3 freeze after about 5-10 min of play time one thing i notice is the fan don't go on like it used to i think the fan is not working but im wondering if adding a intercooler would solve my problem

Yeah for sure you aren't going to want to use it until the cooling fan is operational, you're lucky that you didn't kill it altogether. Try unplugging the fan wire, cleaning the metal contacts, and plugging it back in. If that doesn't do it, replace it. If you can't buy aftermarket cooling fans, try looking for wii parts on ebay. Aside from that, do all you can to keep it cool..... don't stack it in-between other warm electronic components (tv, dvd player, etc.), don't place it on a carpeted floor (the carpet will insulate the heat and keep it warm), etc.

Check if all the hot air can get away from the ps3,
freezing happens when the ps3 gets to hot.
Clean out the fan with a vacum cleaner.

before you play have a fan blowing on it for ten mins. then whenever you play put the fan on low while you play. it worked for me.

Fallout 3(along with several other games) has issues when trying to access the hard drive. Notice how it only freezes when you go to/ leave an area?

Playing the game from the disk should fix most freezing problems with the game. Feel free to continue to play the game from the hard drive once you have successfully moved to a new area and the issue has cleared up. :-)

when it happens, give it some time, like 5-10 min. the ps3 is most likely accessing the hard drive, and if it is, shutting down in the middle of it could currupt your hdd. if it doesnt work, even after 10 min, call sony tech support, but if it works fine afterwords, i dont see why it would be neccessary. unless it gets worse, i think you should just turn it on, turn it off after a few min, then back on, and then play.

You might be getting ready to experience and E74 error or the RROD. I had 3 that did the same thing. The whine is the fans running 100% and then just turning off

Try using a can of air to blow out the fan area. Even though its well ventilated it may be full of dust. It sounds like an overheating issue. Also look into aftermarket fan/cooling solutions, that dont plug directly into the PS3 and have there own outlet power plug.

The Nintendo 64 is notorious for overheating problems.  This is a very common problem.  With my N64, I play it while a fan is blowing on it.  This usually prevents the problem.  Try this method.  It should work.

yo dude i have the same problem as u like im playing cod4 wen i exit a match it freezes wen i play guitar hero 2 that also freezes while playing a song i think i know sum ways. its either were playin to much u need to buy 1 of those disks that clean inside the ps3 or any dvds its like a special disk it just goes inside and u play it and it takes like 5 min cuz none of my games have scratches

Freezing is due to heat issues and/or scratched discs. Mostly heat. I have seen MANY PS3 mother boards that have not had enough heatsink paste applied to the CPU or GPU by Sony to disperse the heat evenly. Also another common problem is dust build up. No matter how clean you think the inside is, there is always dust build up. The easist way to clean it is to get a can of compressed air and stick the straw into the front and side holes and let it rip. It should blow 70-80% of the dust build up out the back of the PS3. You will may even see a cloud come out as I have so many times.

Now for the COD4 online problems....the company that made the game and supports the online play (Infinity Ward) has cut back the number of servers used to support the online game play since the traffic has slowed down. Unfortuantly, I think they scaled back too much. I sold my copy of this game because it was too hard to get into a lobby and stay there for more then 3 min.
