My monitor is not booting up this morning. I keep getting just the Gateway logo and no further activity. At times logo flashes and other times is steady. I did not shut my computer or monitor off last evening. I have shut down the system by turning off power to no avail.

Re: Gateway lcd monitor
First, narrow down the problem to either the monitor, or to the computer itself. Either try the monitor on a spare or friend's computer, or try a known working monitor on your computer.
I'd guess your computer is where the issue is at- it isn't booting the Operating System (MS XP or whatever O/S is present on the hard disk.
if the computer is the issue, try booting from the CD which came with the computer, (assuming you have that CD). Or, you could see if some computer tech savvy person has a bootable floppy diskette.
Basically a "no-boot" problem, can point to a number of problems: hardware issue (bad hard drive etc.), or an operating system problem.

Hi,
Welcome to Fixya Support I am Michelle, and i will be assisting you regarding the issue
Turn off the system. Unplug the power cord from the mains. Keep the power button of the cpu (not the monitor) pressed for 5-6 seconds. turn the unit bcak on and check.
Please reseat the monitor cable that connects to the desktop ensuring a secure connection.
Further, if you are able to see the Lenovo Logo on startup try booting to safe mode by tapping F8 key on the lenovo logo itself.
Howevre, in case you are not even able to view the lenovo logo on startup, then it could be a fault with the lcd monitor itself requiring a repair.
That is a sign of dying power supply due to bad cDC filter caps.
Please read my guide and look at the album of bad caps so you will know what to look for. If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on: Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed GATEWAY and other monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

When you say screen goes very dark when it booted to windows so it means that when you turned on the laptop when the dell logo flashes the screen was fine? if thats the case could you please try this. after turning on the laptop you will see the dell logo flashes immediately keep tapping on F2 and then it will show you the BIOS setup utility, please check if in BIOS setup display goes dark as well. If yes then try this, after turning on the computer when dell logo flashes keep tapping on F12 to boot menu then select utility partition to run the diagnostics. Please run test on the LCD check if display goes black when running the LCD test. Then try this when you sees the dell logo keep tapping on F8 to boot in safe mode check if in safe mode display goes very dark. Try this too, boot in F8 then select last known good configuration check if the settings on your display will be fix. If you can boot to safe mode no problem then uninstall the display or video driver. then restart computer.
You can also try to connect an external monitor if you have one just try to isolate if issue is on the LCD or the video card. If the display is dark as well in external monitor then video card needs to be reseated if fails then replaced. In situation like this most video cards is integrated to the motherboards. So replace motherboard.
please explain further. keeps going black from where? after turning on the laptop? of after windows logo? if after windows logo screen turns black if a no boot issue where laptop cannot load system files. if screen is black after turning on no manufacturer logo and windows logo or anything then it might be the LCD or video card / motherboard. to isolate try connecting your laptop to an external monitor and check if you will be getting the same problem. if no display from the external monitor then its a video card issue, if video card is integrated needs to replace motherboard.
I had the exact same problem!! Drove me crazy for days. Couldn't find any answers online, contacted Gateway tech support and they told me my warranty was expired but they'd be happy to discuss my issue for $2 per minute. Gateway can **** it!!
At first I thought the problem might be a malfunctioning NVIDIA card, a problem with my DVI cable, or the monitor itself. But, after turning off the computer, unplugging the DVI cable, replugging the DVI cable and restarting the computer, I noticed I could get the firmware flash screen to show, including the BIOS menu boot and the Gateway system reinstall screen to show. As soon as the Windows flash logo would display, however, the monitor would drop out and display the dreaded "No Signal" error.
This indicated the problem was a software one and not hardware! The cable, monitor and video card were all working fine. Then I remembered that Windows installed its automatic update a few days prior. In fact...
THE PROBLEM TURNED OUT TO BE A WINDOWS UPDATE INSTALLED A FEW DAYS PRIOR.
After succesfully booting into safe mode (F8 during the flash/bootup screens), I went to Add or Remove programs in the control panel, clicked on the "Show Updates" box on the top, and uninstalled the Windows update from a few days prior to the occurance of the error. After a reboot the problem was solved.
I hope this will help anybody else struggling with this error!
Unless there is inadequate ventilation, your monitor could remain on all the time with little ill effect. Actually turning on and off your monitor actually puts more strain on it then leaving it on all the time.
If the gateway screen is displayed for a moment and then just turns off, I believe the inverter board inside the monitor has broken. What's actually happening is that somewhere in the board more voltage then needed is "leaking" in and the safeguards on the board turn it off to prevent damage.
I would go and get an estimate from a shop. If the price is within 30-50 dollars of a new monitor, get a new one.
It sounds like the monitor whose writing comes up in pink has a problem with the RGB usually IC driven and all of them sound like they have faulty power supply boards. Will investigate further and give a more detailed answer. Hope this helps for the time being.
