Re: does not work
Check the power lead - if it is a cigarette lighter socket type, often you can unscrew the end and you will find a small fuse in the plug - this could be the problem.
If not, then is the detector still under warranty? if not open it up and send us a couple of photos of the insides.
Hope this helps :)

Which model? Simply take the unit out of the box, mount it, plug in the power cord and turn it on. That is all that you need to do. remember this unit is a RADAR detector and not a POLICE detector. The officers have to be transmitting to have the unit pick anything up.
Your 8500 X50 draws less than 1 Amp of power. The best solution for hardwiring your radar detector is to purchase one of Escort's direct wire kits and then use an Add-A-Circuit (available at almost any auto parts store) to tap the direct wire kit's power into one of the vehicle fuse box's switched power fuses. I recommend tapping into a fuse which is rated for 10A or higher since the higher amperage fuse terminals have thicker wires running back to the car battery, and this generally provides cleaner power for the radar detector.
most likely u have a bad connection with ur cigarette lighter or the fuze in the end of the wire that goes into the cigarette lighter the cap screws off and theres a fuze there or there is a small cut in the wire or kink in it that if shutting off the power to it,.or the tip in the plug that goes into the detector isnt fuly pushed in but i believe its a fuze hope this helps
About the only thing to try with the Escort 8500 and the x50 is to do a full reset. Hold all 3 buttons down while turning the detector on.
I believe Escort will still work on it, there will just be a service charge with no warranty.
For what its worth a few years ago I had a similar problem. Turned out the car 12V socket I was plugging into didn't work. Quickest way to figure that out is to take it to another car and try it there.
