Fax query I have a bother fax 920 and have just got rid of my separate fax line and had a duet line put on my home phone number. (A duet line allows me to keep the same fax number I had before without having a separate line.) Does anyone know how to set the fax up so it works properly?

This sounds like you have smart ring on your home line. Smart ring lets you have 2 seperate telephone numbers, One for fax and another for phone, but 2 distinctive rings all one one line. Check your manual to see if you have this feature and to set it up.

Phone company added a dedicated fax line to the outside of my house and my home phone rings to my fax

Your wall outlet has four wires, the center two are the first line and the outside two are the new fax line. You need to go to Radio Shack and get an adapter to split your first and second line into two separate wires. The part number is below.

Each time I try to send a fax it says the number is busy when I know it is not

Dial the number on a regular phone and verify that the number ANSWERS with the fax tones immediately. If it doesn't, then the line will register as busy to your fax.

Check the answering function of the fax machine, otherwise I think, might be, its not possible.

FAX, MODEL 920 NOT RECEIVING

Try calling your fax machine from a cell phone. If the fax doesen't answer, or if the line is busy, the phone line may be bad. Also check that the phone line to the fax is plugged into the receptical marked LINE, not PHONE. The PHONE receptical is to connect a telephone to the fax machine. If it still does not answer, try going into the fax menu and go to RECEIVE settngs. Try changing each setting, then call the fax with the cell to see if it answers. Write down each setting before you change it, so you can set it back if changing it does not solve the problem.

Try this:

Unplug line from back of printer

Set the Incoming mode to autoswitching
set DRPD to Off so that it will recognize all incoming calls

** if possible call your telephone company and set a distinctive ring pattern for phone calls

replug cable on line port at the back of printer

then ask someone to send you a fax...
