Question about MSI MS-6547 Motherboard

1 Answer

Memory Recognition I have an MSI MS6547 motherboard the 645E Max series. I have 512MB memory modules from each of three manufacturers Infineon, Kingston, and PNY. I am running XP Home. The computer, on boot up, will recognize that only one of the modules is installed. PC Wizard and CPU-z both recognize the full 1.5GB of installed memory but the computer (Control Panel-System ) says only 512MB is installed. How do I go about getting all of the installed memory recognized. BTW, the 3 memory modules all operate fine if installed one at a time in slot 1.

Thanks for the thought. All three memory modules are PC2700 compatable. Any of the 3 can be in the first slot and I will get a 512MB reading.

The BIOS recognizes the same speed chip. Say, "PNY 512mb 333mhz 12ns". If you mix and mismatch, the BIOS won't see it even though your motherboard will take the differant type chips. They should all be the same.

Third 1gb memory module causes reboots

Well the memory is faulty or possibly a bad connection. Try using an Ink erasor to clean up the contacts on the memory. Also a can of compressed air is great for cleaning out the memory slots. Cheers from Scott

If I unstall DDR400 memory as as follows: DDR1 & DDR3 : 512MB each DDR2 & DDR4 : 256MB each making 1.5 GB in total, will dual channel technology be activated?

Definitely not. Dual channel technology requires that the 2 RAM modules installed in each bank be of the same capacity, data rate, & even better be from the same manufacturer.

Why won't MB recognise new 2 x 1Gb Memory?

The motherboard does not support 1 GB modules; 512 MB is the maximum the motherboard will recognize. Usually, the computer won't even work if the memory isn't supported but in this case it does.

Thanks and please remember to give this a thumbs up rating.

Memory Problems (MSI KM4M-V Motherboard)

if you know the make and model number of the memory sticks you will need to contact the manufacturer to find the voltage specifications so you can adjust the bios accordingly. Or do a google search with the model number and make of the memory stick for voltage details

Sorry for my bad english

Hi mastelmkd, click on this link;
http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=prodcpusupport&prod_no=499&maincat_no=1#menu
This is MSI's link for supported CPU's for the 645E Max-U motherboard. Check you're bios version. You'll need ver 5.3 to run the Pentium 4 (Northwood, FSB533, L2 Cache 512KB), Pentium 4, 2.8GHz CPU. Or you can choose a lower CPU from the list. Suggest you add the link above to you're favorites.

Good luck mastelmkd!

Msi 654e max atx mother board

If your manual states a max of 2.2GHZ then, take it as that, when your board was made the bios and bus speeds would be set at the maximum to run a 2.2GHZ, not a 3GHZ, also the heat sink and fan may not be enough to cool the processor. The only way that a 3GHZ would run was if you updated the bios and personally i would not recommend it. You would be better advised updating the board and processor as a package ot fitting more memory if the pc is not used for gaming or high end video editing.
