You probably have a bad door latch or door interlock. Both, if defective will cause the symptoms you describe. The door must remain closed and lock before a wash cycle will begin, and for it to complete properly.

There is a push button type interlock either at the top or bottom of the door opening. On some models, there are two interlocks. If your washer does not have an interlock, it still sounds like you have something wrong with a latch circuit in the door, because you stated that the washer works fine as long as you push on the door. This is usually a symptom of a bad interlock or latch that's not staying closed properly. You may also check the door seal to make sure it's seated properly all the way around the door opening, and that it is not keeping the door from closing properly. I have experienced this problem before. Sorry, it's hard to diagnose without seeing what the door assembly looks like. Let me know if this helps.

GE adora WHDRE526EWW when started it begins to fill then stops filling and have to restart sometimes three to four times help!!!.

I wish I had a solution, I have the same issue. My WHDRE526EWW Top Load washer stops intermittently sometimes while filling up, sometimes while rinsing, sometimes while washing and sometimes while spinning. I just have to guess when it's going to stop and check on each load frequently to restart it when it stops. Sometimes I can't even get it to start spinning again and I will have to unplug it and plug it back in and then it will spin. Hope someone can help!

Frigidaire (LTF2940E) Washer starts, stops, starts, stops...

The cycle doesn't advance When the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:

  • It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.

  • It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.

HOTPOINT WASHER DRYER WD440G

That means that the machine detected a problem at a certain point of the cycle and stopped.

If the machine stops when filling check the inlet valve and the water supply.

If it stops because ofervilling check the water level switch.

If it stops when the cycle is hot water only , then check the heating element.

If it stops when draining, then inspect drain filter, drain pump , and drain hose. You access the drain hose removing a panel at the front side of the machine.

If it stops when motor is supposed to spin faster (rinse) then it is motor control unit or motor coupler.

If it is none of the above, then it is a defective control board.

Front load washer doesn't spin

My Maytag® Neptune® washer filled with water, but it won't spin or drain-what now?

Start by making sure the machine is plugged into a live (working) electrical outlet. Then check the appropriate circuit breaker and reset it if necessary (or check the fuse if you have a fuse box).

Next, inspect the drain hoses and remove any kinks. Take a look at the drain, too - if it's clogged, call your usual drain service person.

Then close the washer door and firmly press the START/STOP button. In a few moments, after the door locks, the washer should begin to spin. (For your safety, the washer will not tumble or spin unless the door is closed and locked.)

If this doesn't work, please contact Customer Service at 1-800-688-9900 for toll-free assistance and service scheduling if necessary.

Stops agitating when door is open

I thought that all front loading washing machines were supposed to stop when you tried to open the door.
And I'm as perplexed as "dauphine." How did you get it opened? Mine won't work at all if the lock/latch doesn't lock at the beginning of the cycle.
