3 problems 1. TV shuts off and on automatically. 2. 2 inch band on left side of screen 3. No picture at all

The band or shadow on the left side of the screen definitely sounds like a defective light tunnel. As for the intermittent pix and shut down this could be the lamp if you have not already changed it.

My dlp tv has a shadow about 6'' wide and full ht of tv

Hello: The problem is that a small mirror on the light tunnel has fell off causing a shadow in the picture,. In the past the only way to repair this problem was to replace the entire Optics Engine. But Samsung decided it was replacing entirely to many light engines so they decided to allow and train technicians on how to do it. It involves removing the color wheel and behind it is the light tunnel where light from the lamp shines on to a maybe 1 1/4 inch small block with three mirrors on all sides, your problem is that one of these mirrors has come loose from its side, causing a shadow with the pic still in the background. So if you call a technician to come, if he has'nt had the training from samsung on how to do the procedure then he will want to replace the entire optics engine which is the expensive way of doing it.
So when calling as if they know how to replace light tunnel. There are some adjustments that also needs to be done once it's replaced. To verify what i am saying go to this site to find out more. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=758625

Call if you need more info will be glad to help..

The left side of the tv has a shadow on it

You have a bad Light Tunnel and needs to be replaced by a trained service tech. I bet you have a Samsung. If it is a Samsung there is a recall and a tech bulliten on this problem. Samsung might pay for the repair. If they resist ask for the ECR group and mention the Light Tunnel issue. This is not a part you cannot replace yourself.

Two inch shadow on tv

Change the input to AV1 or AV2 with no signal and see if it's still there, if it is you might have a defective light engine in which a lot of manufacturers will warranty. This can be repaired in the home but some shops preferr to take them in, try for the in home co's first. Just a word to the wise, DLP's do not last as long as you may want.

56 inch Samsung TV

This shadow is called by the light tunnel in your optical engine. You can have someone come out and try to fix the light engine. I am an authorized samsung tech and about 80 percent of the time I can rebuild the light tunnel. If the tech can not fix the light tunnel you would have to have the optical engine replaced. The light tunnel is something you would not want to attempt yourself. At least you can explain to a shop what your problem is..if they have not heard of this call a diffrent shop.
