I openned mine up and found that the lens carrige was not in the fully retracted position. I pushed it all the way back to the back of the slide. Then I removed the two screws on either side of the spindle support so I could get to the lens. I hit the lens with some compressed air, plugged it in and loaded a disk and it worked like a champ. Listening to some Stevie Ray Vaughn right now!!! And going to watch some movies later. ;)

Good luck, I hope this helps someone.

The same problem happened with my dvd player. i rubbed rubbing alcohol all over the lazer several times with a q-tip and still no luck.
then my buddy tried blowing in it several times, like we used to do with the old school NES system (remember those????) and it worked like magic!

I had a 5-disc cd changer that couldn't read discs, skipping from disc to disc after attempting read them. It opened it up, wiped the eye with rubbing alcohol on a q-tip, that didn't help. Then got a duster can, that high powered spray. That did the trick!!! Tried that on the Apex when it was getting bad disc and stalling on movies when it did play, it helped it play one movie about 3/4 of the way then it started the stalling again. After that it said bad disc constantly. I forgot about the rubbing alcohol trick. I'll try that in a day or so. Found a replacement dvd player on clearance so no hurry with the Apex fix for me. If the rubbing alcohol does work I'll write back.

The lens over the laser may be dirty. Purchase CD/DVD player cleaning kit and follow the instructions for cleaning. If that does not work then it is highly possible that the unit may need to be replaced.

GPX D1816 DVD

This is a common situation, this an indication the laser assembly pickup is failing, it is far cheaper to replace the player than have it repaired.

hi,

Does it happen for all dvd disc or some particular dvd disc. If it is with some particular disc then clean the dvd and try them. If the problem exist for all the dvd then try to clean the lens by dvd lens cleaner and try to play. dvd lens cleaner will be available in dvd stores.

Sounds like a mechanical problem of sorts . Hard one to call without opening and looking. Before you tear it apart I would try calling Apex Digital At 866-427-3946, as they are very good with there customers. Good luck
