Many of frost-free fridges use fans to move a controlled amount of air into the upper or side cooling chamber, check for non-working fan or a stuck or malfunctioning damper control. Keith L.
all the cooling comes from the freezer. a fan pushes 20% of the air over into the fresh side.look for something blocking the airflow into fresh side. also check for defrost malfunction(is there frost buildup in the freezer on back wall towards the bottom.
i would take the back freezer panel off and see what kind of frost pattern your coils have.they may be frosted over and the begining of a defrost problem.
did you move it or tip it on its side when these devices are moved sometimes it will create anair pocket in the cooling system after moveing let stand for a few hours before plugging back in.
Check to see if there is frost on the rear wall o f the freezer wall. If so, the units cooling coils (behind the frost) may be covered with ice. Defrosting is necessary. The refrigerator may not be defrosting at regular intervals a required. Standing open for a couple of days should defrost it but it will still be necessary to find out why it frosted over. There is a defrost control that automatically melts ice from the cooling coils on a regular basis. Maybe this control is not functioning.
Check and see if your evaporator fan motor is working in the freezer. Also, if your defrost system is not working and your evaporator coil is frosted up, you will not get any cold air to the refrigerator section. You should see alot of frost on the back wall of the freezer where the evaporator coil is located. If your evaporator fan motor is working and there is no frost build up on the coil, the air diffuser to the refrigerator section may be the problem. Put your hand in front of it when the evaporator fan motor is running and feel if any air is coming thru. There are a number of conditions that can cause your problem. This should get you started! Most side by side and other models of refrigerator freezer combinations are of one basic design. The freezer section does the cooling for both compartments. The refrigerator section gets it cold air from the freezer compartment. Therefore check for frost on the back wall of the freezer compartment. If frost is present there you have a defrost problem and it is cutting off the air that cools the refrigerator section.
I think this problem may already be resolved in some manor because of the date of post. Posts should expire after an unreasonable time period.
First thing to check is look and see if there is thick frost build up on the back lower panel inside the freezer? If not there must be a problem in the damper (vent). Let me know what you find so I can help.
