Letter skipping When typing on a brother electronic typewriter SX4000, it skips letters as you type. For example, if I were to type: My dog has fleas, it would look like this M og s l as.

Hi Mark:
Way to go......... blame the dog.
What I don't understand is, if you have a computer, why are you not using WORD or a similar processor instead of a typewriter?
My opinion is that typewriters are really inefficient compared to word processors.
Cheers.
Hammer sticking and typing incorrect letters (and or skipping letters): 1) make sure daisy wheel installed correctly. 2) hold down CODE key & Q (RESET) to reset wheel...if still not corrected 3) WD40 the hammer at the base & joints where moving parts are, keep typing until oil seeps in (this last one fixed it for me)
Typing light and inconsistant-top part of letter okay but bottom too light or not there: to left of hammer (at base) are 2 screws, I losened them and adjusted hammer to different forward and backward spots..finally found the ideal location where full letter printed and had the correct force it needed to print correctly.
Providing you have the proper supplies and they are correctly installed you just type a wrong letter, press he correction (KEY WITH AN ARROW AND AN "X" ON IT).
if it only happens occasionally, it may be the circuit board is starting to fail or you may be accidently hitting keys or holding the spacebar down too long, which is easy to do. sorry, no easy fix on this one, unless it is you.
If it always types the same wrong letter you are probably in a language mode or the pitch is in ps. If the letter changes after you turn it off and on the homing pawl spring is bad you need a tech.
I downloaded the manual from http://www.devicemanuals.com/downloadguide.php and then, following the instructions there, I removed then re-inserted the daisy wheel. This solved my problem. Perhaps it had somehow gotten out of adjustment. At least, it is something to try if you haven't tried it already.
