Our fax machine is having trouble recieving faxes. It amkes a grinding/shreiking noise when receiving new faxes. There is definately some major friction going on in the machine, but I don't know where and if I did I don't know what to do about it. Aside from the unpleasent noise, faxes are recieved incomplete and sometimes not at all. Can you help? Thanks.

The scanner is not receiving light. That is either because paper is covering the scanner, or the scanner light source is not working. In this case, make sure the connections are in place, if so, replace the scanner.
I have heard of machines having a compatibility issue with other machines. I would call brother or a brother dealer, first find out what the other machine is. it is likely not recognizing the handshake signal.
