Dell 924 I was given a dell 924 printer that the encoding strip fell out of. After putting the strip back in the ink carriage still slams back and forth. What could still be going on?

I had the same issue. The strip isn't going through the optical reader. Aside from the slot on the left side there is a second groove in the middle of the cartridge carrier on the back. It needs to go through there. Problem is you can't see it without taking the cover off and even with the cover off it is barely visible. Keep the strip as close to the back of the carrier as possible when threading it through.

What do you call the encoding strip? Do you means the contact strip on the back of the cartridge? If so buy a new cartridge. If you mean part of the printer-did you put it back correctly- if still in trouble-take a look at www.fixyourownprinter.com. If no luck there try the Dell Tech support team If still out of luck Buy a new printer-

After replaceing an ink cartriage every time I turn the printer the ink tray slams to one side then all the way back I gert an error message to start it again and slam bam. I hope you can help.

The encoder strip may have come out of the sensor slot. Turn off power, slide cartridge carrier to center, place finger on each side of encoder strip which runs behind the carriage and push the encoder strip down and back up, slightly back and forward if necessary to get it into the sensor slot which is located behind carrier. If it is in slot, sliding the cartridge carrier back and forth to see if therre is movement. If so repeat.

Where is the encoder strip on brother fax machines?

I am familiar wih some inkjet models. The encoder strip would usually be behind the ink cartridge carriage. It is a thin clear plastic strip across the length of the carriage. The ink cartridge housing glides back and forth along the encoder strip.
