Do you want to use the N30 over WAP/GPRS, dial-up land land line or a GSM modem. The N30 does not have any kind of modem or cellular capability built-in, only 'blue tooth' so depending on your requirements you will have to obtain a sutable external device. You are not compelled to use a mobilephone hand set though.
I have just bought a SPECTEC SDIO WiFi 802.11b card for my Acer n30B, and it now works fine as a fully wifi capable computer as long as i can pick up a wifi hotspot, and the next thing I will be doing is installing Skype mobile on the n30B, and that should give me the capability of making free computer to computer phone calls world wide to other skype users, and for a small subscription to Skype talk time, it can also be used to make worldwide phone calls to landlines and mobile phones at a fraction of the cost of using a regular phone, I suggest you try the same thing! Best of luck!

Re: acer n 30 doesn't make phone calls
I order to turn the PDA into a phone you will have to buy A software and then get a number from one of your local dealers, I reccomand that you go to one of the cellular phone compny site/store and see if they support this kind of pda.

You can download the n30's manual from this direct link. If it doesn't work for you, please, let me know. I'll try my best to download it and upload it to some other file server for you.
Sounds as if the touch screen membrane is defective, which is a darned nuisance, but not impossible to fix .... if you are confident of dismantling the n30, you can buy a new touch screen membrane from Ebay for about 4 pounds/6 dollars. It is a very skilful job to remove the old touch membrane from the actual display screen below it, not really for a novice, and all internal components are very delicate, so i suggest you find a tame technician before you buy the new membrane. The touch membrane connects to the motherboard via a tiny flexible 4 or 5 pin membrane ribbon cable, it's a miracle of miniature engineering inside the n30, so do ve very careful if you decide to do it yourself, best of luck!
If your router has wireless broadcasting. Check all the settings in your router. Add the MAC address of the WIFI Card to your routers Wireless settings and also maybe in your firewall settings in the networking of your router. Be sure to add the WEP key when you connect to your router. Check your security settings.
try checking your power saving options, you can drop down the backlight a little lower to extend battery life. Also you can lower down the volume of the system sound and check if the bluetooth is on, then turn it off. Recharge it and then check if the battery life extends. You also need to occasionally soft-reset the n30
