Question about JVC AV-56WP74 56" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television
I have a JVC AV-56WP74 rear projection TV. Tonight all of a sudden thin, curved red lines came across the entire screen. I noticed from postings that this is probably a convergence problem. I chose Autoconvergence from the menu but still no luck. I am completely illiterate when it comes to TV repair. Is this something that I could try to accomplish myself (with hopefully some step-by-step instructions) or will I need to pony up for a technician? I'd appreciate any help you can give. Thanks!
Hi there, i had the exact same problem as you and this is how we solved it. Instead of replacing the convergence IC's as suggested above, which requires soldering and de-soldering, which could damage your board (this happeend to us). Order online part # SSB-5068A. This is the ENTIRE convergence board with new IC's. Cost you about $140 (from vance baldwin.com) but is a lot less hassle than you trying to soldering/desoldering parts. Only thing is, next to the 2 large heat sinks, there is this large silver component that you need to unscrew from your old board, and unplug and attach to your new board. We tok the new board..hooked up all the wires..and voila, no more convergence issues.

We have the same problem. As suggested by yangfan we ordered a new board but the tvdoctor (Allan Wainright allexperts.com) says that the new board will have a different dcu and in most cases the memory will be very different and take major programming to work right. What was your experience with this dcu? Is it the big silver thing next to the heat sinks? Can the dcu from the old board be swapped to the new board? I'm not sure what "major programming" means - like does it require special equipment? Thanks for your time.

It sounds like one of your convergence IC's has burned out. The IC needs to be replaced and the convergence realigned, and since you admit being completely illiterate when it comes to TV repair, I suggest that you allow a qualified tech to handle it for you.
