We have had to have the mirror cleaned a couple of times by a technician. They said they were working with Mitsubishi for a "permanent" solution but nothing has happened. On my old Mitshbisi TV's I could clean the mirrors and lense myself. I have seen several posts that mention they removed the screen and cleaned the mirros and lenses and this removed the spots. Proble is no one that I have seen has specifically said how they accessed the mirrors and how they cleaned them. Their only comments where that it was so much better after cleaning. I hate to need to have an expensive service call everytime in needs dusting. Help.

Re:
Wd-52525 This is a DLP, I dont suggest taking it apart to clean anything, this is what we call a MICRO display, the imaging device is about 1" square and blown up 50X to the size of the pix you watch, anytime anyone I know has taken stuff appart where the mirror is at has ended up worse off, you say that there is dust on the mirror, what does it look like in your picture? If the spots are quarter size or so and fuzzy edges the dust is inside the lightengine and you want a factory cleanroom to service the LE, the one thing I think you can safely do is pull the lamp and check for dust on it as it can cause issues in pix, other than that I dunno what to tell you, hope this info helps.

A few of these (not sure if this model) have two mirrors inside--stupid idea and only a few had that--.
If this is the case here--little mirror (I mean LITTLE) is at bottom pointing up from the optical lens--gets dust and such from the fans= picture gets darker to the point where brightness is very diminished.
Mitsubishi can tell you if it has two mirrors (the large one in rear of set must not be touched and never needs cleaning as any finger prints etc will show in the picture.
If two mirrors I can tell you what to do--15 minute two person job.
This may be a model that has two mirrors. Mitsubishi could tell you if this is the case.
Some idiot had the bright idea to have optical unit shine picture into tiny mirror which puts it into large mirror in back; problem is tiny mirror if there is at bottom and facing up, dust or dirt get on it and picture brightness will diminish up to 70% or more.
If model you own does have two mirrors, the front of the set with the screens will have to be removed to clean it, not real hard and takes 15 minutes.
If you can confirm it has two mirrors I can tell you step by step how to remove screen unit and resolve problem. Usually if tiny mirror dirty it will happen over time, picture will gradually get darker and dull looking.
Let me know if want instructions, the set either has two mirrors or it does not.
Cleaning the mirrors will not increase the brightness much. I would double check the lamp setting in the Menu and also the setting of the picture and brightness settings. Many times these are adjustable independently for different inputs. Besides this, I would look at the Ballast and or the Power Supply to cause the problem. I would recommend a professional to look at it if it is not correctable from the Main Menu of the set.
Hope this helps,

Most likely cause of your trouble is dust on the small mirror inside you set. Your DLP set has 2 mirrors not including the DLP chip itself which has about 500,000 tiny mirrors. The 2 mirrors reflect the DLP chip image to the screen you view. The first is the main suspect it's about 4inches by 7inches. It's mounted on the bottom center facing backwards. This mirror faces slightly up and somtimes after time dust, smoke, dirt settles on it . The second fills the space of the entire back of the cabinet but it faces down and takes alot longer to get dirty. The compartment is sealed but dust seems to find it's way in. If you remove the screws that secure the screen assembly from the top , sides and bottom. Make sure to have a friend available the screen assembly is delicate when it's not mounted to the cabinet. You can remove and clean the mirrors. These mirrors are glass and you can use glass cleaned. Don't use glass cleaner on the screen it's plastic. You can clean it if necessary with plastic cleaner only. Probably not needed. Good luck.
Using your remote, click the "video" button (mid area, Right hand side) and adjust the brightness, contrast, etc., to your liking. Only you know what you like. If your picture can be "plenty bright enough"...then just make the necessary adjusts to whatever looks best to you. If your picture is "very dim" no matter what the video settings are, you need a complete cleaning of all lens, mirrors, and screen...and possibly a new lamp.
i have been fighting a dark screen almos impossible to see dark scenes
i found this from another person
the mirror has dust on it easy fix
remove front of screen by removing screws around the top and sides of the back don't forget to pop off the bottom cover in the front it just pulls off
then remove center cover screws
i could not disconnect the front electrical plug but it has enough slack to lift and then tip the front screen down to the floor
it will be obvious on the mirrors there is a big one it wasn't to dirty
lean in and look down there is a small mirror and lens they were filthy
there is a piece of foam trying to keep the dust out it was sucked backed so dust could get in
clean with windex and paper towels cloth didn't work
good luck

There is black insulating foam that surrounds the projector and it may be displaced to one side. This leaves about an 1 inch opening around the projector lens and that could be the source of the problem, dust being blown into the compartment with the mirrors. Cleaned the mirrors really well and used double stick tape to reattach the foam to the plastic frame and this will closed off the opening that maybe letting the dust into the mirrored area of the TV.
