Sounds like you have a backlight problem. To verify this, turn on the set and dim the lights in the room. Take a bright flashlight and shine it on the screen. Do you see a faint picture?
Yes! When i shine a flash light a very faint picture appears. What does this mean?
You have a backlight problem. It could be that you have a problem with your 24vdc power supply output, bad bulb, defective inverter board(s), or in a rare case, a main board problem. Based off of my experience, it sounds like a bad bulb. Unless you have electronics repair experience, I would recommend you get a diagnoses done.
I have removed the back light inverter because i thought that might be the problem, but i dont want to pay for a new one if for sure thats not gonna fix it. The tv was struck by lighting and i payed 250 bucks to get main board replaced. Do you suggest i pay 42 dollars and replace the inverter of just buy a new Tv?
Oh no, lightning damage can do a # on flat panel TV's. I would recommend replacing the set. You've already sunk money into a main board and that didn't fix the problem, I'd cut my losses and buy a new set. Sometimes lightning can damage multiple boards. Toss the TV on your local Craigslist and list it as a parts set. If you get $40-$50 for it as is, take the money and run.
Yeah thats kinda what i was thinking. Just so we are clear though, when i got the main board replaced, it worked fine for 5 months. now all of a sudden this problem with the backlight. now sure if that changes your opinion or not. Thanks for your help.
It is very possible that the surge damaged the main board and weakened other circuitry thus causing the failure after 5 months. Toss is on Craigslist and just mention that it has a backlight problem. Also be sure to include nice pictures of the set, will help bring a quick sell

princess_dc6,
Just recently, I was told how to get another tv.
You find a good TV service centre and ask them to fix it. If they cant you take the work order from your tv sc and call 1-877-297-8391.
You will get yourself a tv

Hi are you getting any flashing codes from the power light or is it steady. These codes tell us what is going on. The main reason on these sets that cause a condition like this is the power supplies going bad. these are just circuit boards that regulate the power for the set and they tend to overheat and eventually go bad. Have you had the cover off and looked at the boards for any damage, bad capacitors or burn marks?
Other than checking all the connections going to it for signal it is likely a shop repair.
The nature of these sets is someone must open and inspect them and check for voltages missing.
At that point it becomes a guessing game---try the boards (purchase them) and see if a bad board.
It is always possible the front screen unit or display has failed which is fatal cost wise.
You have to weigh the cost of repair, age of set and cost of replacement in this.
The only way anyone can KNOW which board is bad is to actually remove and replace it----most shops look at it and shoot you a high estimate.
let me know if you have questions.

if it is a single blue dot one pixel wide and one pixel tall thats probably normal. If it is bigger than that I would RMA the thing while you still can. LCDs are often sold with bad pixels. Not ussually more than a few. Its in the manufacturing process and is within tolerance limits. I forget how many the going standard is. Good luck with it sounds like a nice TV.
