Question about Sanyo Xacti DSC-S1 / VPC-S1 Digital Camera
For no obvious reason after using the camera fine & taking some pictures, switched off & the lens did not retract. Now when switched on, after a few seconds get an error displayed "System Error" and does nothing else. I can use in play mode to look at photos, but in camera mode the lens will not move. Have tried with brand new batteries, tried leaving off without batteries for a few days, but still the same. Help appreciated.
Same thing happened to mine - i read this and thought that I would have to chuck it and buy a new one. However, after the above poster suggested it could have been caused by a knock, I thought I'd at least try to solve it by another hard knock. I gave it a shake and banged it twice against the palm of my hand and, low and behold, it works again. I havent had the probelm since. Maybe the mechanism just got stuck and need the jolt to re-align itself?

The Lens mechanism has become damaged some how a bit of grit a knock- whatever. There is no self ix option- with out running the risk of further damage. Go onto the Sanyo tech support team and see what they say A repair can be as costly as replacing the camera - be prepared for this
