I removed the CD drive and replaced with a Pioneer DVD/CD wirter, but the new drive is not recognized at all. At set up, the HD is primary master, and under secondary master, it says unknow device. What should I do?
Try the drive in another machine to isolate the problem. If the drive works and its your system you may have to do the following Update your BIOS Place the drive on the other IDE channel. If there is only one IDE channel on your system board it sounds like you already have the jumpers set properly. If this is an older system you may only have a 40 pin cable, make sure you have a new IDE cable. The cable may also be damaged. Check the power to the drive. If none of that works and it is working but absolutly not compatable with your hardware you could purchase an external enclosure for it and connect it with the USB or Firewire. Hack
