I removed the CD drive and replaced with a Pioneer DVD/CD wirter, but the new drive is not recognized at all. At set up, the HD is primary master, and under secondary master, it says unknow device.
What should I do?

Re:
Try the drive in another machine to isolate the problem. If the drive works and its your system you may have to do the following
Update your BIOS
Place the drive on the other IDE channel. If there is only one IDE channel on your system board it sounds like you already have the jumpers set properly.
If this is an older system you may only have a 40 pin cable, make sure you have a new IDE cable. The cable may also be damaged.
Check the power to the drive.
If none of that works and it is working but absolutly not compatable with your hardware you could purchase an external enclosure for it and connect it with the USB or Firewire.

Most DVD drives are also CD drives, and it sounds like the DVD part is broken, you need to replace the DVD drive, this is done simply by buying a new one, I recommend Newegg.com ( if your unsure search exactly what you already have) then opening your case (tower) and just unplugging old one and plugging new one in, it really is very doable for even a novice.
you might have to physically unplug the leads for this blue-ray disc/dvd/cd writer then plug them back in this should activate the found new hardware wizard if your computer came with a motherboard disc the drivers could be on it hope this helps
If you cannot read those CD-disks in _any_ computer, then the disks are "bad".
If you can read those CD-disks, then it's time to replace the CD/DVD drive. Find a smaller computer-store -- often they will remove the "dead" drive, and install the "new" drive, for $0.00, or for a small fee, if you buy the new CD/DVD-writer from them.
what operating system? If windows XP, be sure you are the administrator of the machine. What is the error message? Try to uninstall the the previous device driver of the cdrom and have it automatically detect the new drive...then retry the suite installation. pls give feedback
in these case your dvd writer became dvd rom due to optical lens problem. some other case dvd can read only cd or became cd rom also due to optical lens problem. change the optical lens or adjust trimmer for laser.
